Chapter ElevenOctober 5th, Day 5 of the Dare Challenge
In pursuit of a wonderous day, Draco, with a gentle leap away from Luna's tight grip, swiftly sauntered into the common room of their dormitory. "Higgs!" he called in a hushed voice.
Higgs apparated in front of Draco with a bow. Draco beamed. "Ah! Higgs, what a wonderful morning! Would you mind fetching Luna her favorite for breakfast? I'll have whatever you bring, I haven't any mind to preference today," he said with a lasting grin on his face.
Higgs was absolutely bewildered.
"Why, certainly!" he squeaked in astonishment. Draco had never been so kind to him before. "I'll be back in a jiffy, Sir!" Then he popped away.
He felt good this morning--no, he felt great! Draco could hardly remember the last time he had gotten a full night's rest so satisfying in comparison to this one. He must've been an infant.
Draco walked back into his room where Luna still lay asleep. Opening the curtains on the window to the right, he gazed out into the Forbidden Forest. The sunbeams glinted from the uppermost leaves, and they rustled when birds emerged from their midst. Draco had never realized how truly extensive the Forbidden Forest was; Well, he had never taken the time to acknowledge it.
Beautiful, he thought to himself, and how I never thought of admiring it before!
He glanced to his left. Luna's dirty blonde hair sprawled across his Slytherin green pillows, the golden rivers starkly contrasting the emerald. A small spot of sun rested upon her cheekbone; ivory porcelain, or so it seemed to him. Two tulip-tinted lips slightly parted as shallow breaths snaked their way in between. Her complexion, he noticed, was so pale that her eyelids naturally had a periwinkle hue, which made her eyes seem startlingly blue when she opened them--as if she could read your mind. Maybe she really can...
Beautiful, the familiar word rang through his mind again. Absolutely lovely, and it is sobering to know this sight has been in front of me this entire time, yet I never cared to truly see it.
He took a knee beside the bed. Not once did his eyes leave her face, nor did they dare to stray away. Draco didn't feel the small smile ease its way into his expression, but it was surely there now. Luna Lovegood is remarkable, he finally admitted to himself, in more ways than intelligence.
He kissed her forehead and Luna roused. Her eyes remained shut, but she spoke.
"Careful with the teapot, I haven't put the soil in the flowers yet."
Draco bit his lip to refrain the laughter but ended with an outburst anyway. Luna shot up, her hair a lion's mane. "What is it! What's happened?"
He fell back onto the floor while holding his stomach, rolling laughter coming from its depths. Never before in his life had Draco laughed so hard. He could hardly breathe!
"Draco!" Luna exclaimed exasperatedly. "What is so funny?"
There were tears coming out of his eyes by the time he managed to speak about the incident. Luna had a grumpy little cloud circulating her head, lips in a pout. "Merlin, Luna," he chuckled.
"Well?" she asked impatiently.
Luna didn't fancy being awoken by somebody laughing in her face, scaring the daylights out of her when they've scarcely awoken themselves.
"Be careful with the teapot, Luna," he smiled. "You haven't yet put the soil in the flowers."
Luna was baffled. "I beg your pardon?"
