Chapter Five
It was one of those nights.
Luna gripped the sheets, ripping them off of her as she let out all of the air in her lungs with a terrifying scream.
There were roaches on her - in her dream. They were eating at the worn fabric coated with body fluids. It was the Malfoy Manor all over again.
Tears streamed down her face as she screamed and screamed. She screamed until her lungs have out, took a breath, and screamed some more. Someone entered, trying to comfort her, but she thrashed.
"LUNA! Luna, goodness! Luna! Stop hitting me!"
Arms wrapped around her, holding her closely and in place. Her screams died down as wet sobs replaced them.
Someone was here.
Someone was comforting her.
Turning, she cried into the chest of whoever was holding her. At this moment, the person didn't matter. They were there.
The arms that were wrapped around her eventually loosened, the hand going to her back to rub soft circles. It was very comforting.
After about an hour of Luna crying into an unknown person, she sniffled and swallowed her fear. Taking a step of bravery, she looked up into her saviour's eyes.
Grey eyes.
Draco Malfoy.
She scrambled out of his arms, crawling to the farthest corner of her bed. The source of her fear was the one consoling her about it.
"Get out of my room, p-please," Luna stuttered out. She was shaking.
Draco stayed put at the edge of the king-sized bed. He didn't move an inch. "Luna, you've just had a night terror, you can't possibly think I'm going to leave you alone after that, do you?"
She was breathing uneasily. "Draco Malfoy, please. Thank you for - for helping me, b-but I don't really - " she sucked in a breath, cutting herself off.
Draco was slowly coming towards her.
She backed up against the board at the end of the bed and the wall. Her head ducked and her eyes slammed shut as she expected the worse.
She felt a hand on her head and she winced, but slowly opened her eyes as it traveled down her hair.
Draco smiled gently at her as he finger-combed the knots in her hair that she most likely made by grabbing at the roots. He was doing what her dad did when she had simple nightmares.
Tears formed in her eyes again.
Draco sighed, retracting his hand. Luna thought he finally gave up until he positioned himself next to her, back against the wall. His arm wrapped around her shoulder, his hand back in her hair again.
Luna's tears spilled out as she crawled to Draco, putting her head against his chest.
"I have them, too."
Luna's tears poured out as Draco spoke. That's how he knew to comfort her instead of waking her. He's had them before.
Her right hand grabbed his left hand, the one not playing with her hair, and squeezed it - a small gesture that she was here for him.
His hand squeezed hers in a returning manner.
Their fingers conformed to each other as she felt herself calm into him. She actually felt sleepy and not exhausted or tired, for once.
"How do you deal with them?" Luna asked him softly.
It was a minute before Draco replied. "I don't."
