Claire POV
"Get down"... he whispered as we sneaked up on them.
I nodded and followed him while we continued to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"When do we attack?" one of them whispered to the other.
"When we receive the order to do so..." the other muttered back.
Kakashi and I exchanged nods once again when we were ready to charge in and we agreed on him going ahead while I attacked them from behind. He charged in and activated his chidori, he then killed three of them in a row as their blood splattered on his face and the faces of the enemy's comrades. I made eye contact with my teammate and I charged in from behind, wiping out 7 of them with an earth style technique. The other ten attempted to fight back but Kakashi revealed his sharingan and put 5 of them in a genjutsu, knocking them out in the process. Four of the remaining five charged in towards us, two coming at each of us. Exhaustion began to overcome Kakashi's body because of the sharingan, but he still succeeded in killing his two opponents with another blast of chidori. I also succeded in killing my own opponents, but got stabbed in the stomach and I looked down to see it dripping blood.
Kakashi POV
I finished off my two opponents and then I turned around, realizing that there was still one opponent standing. I stood up and charged in his direction, activating my chidori for a third time.. I made direct eye contact with him and suddenly I was no longer charging towards him, but towards Rin. "G-Genjutsu?!" I panicked. I tried to deactivate chidori but I didn't make it in time and she ran in front of me, my hand peacing her heart and blood leaking out from her mouth.
"Ka....ka.....shi..." she choked out, blood leaking from her mouth before before she went limp and collapsed to the ground. I clutched my head and groaned loudly.
'It's happening..... again.....'
Claire POV
I turned around, hearing Kakashi's groan and I looked up at his opponent, appearing behind him and slitting his throat. Afterwards I ran over to my teammate and knelt down in front of him. His face twisted in mental pain, he trembled and stared at his hand.
"N-no...." he muttered.
I made a hand sign and yelled:
"Release!" to get him out of the genjutsu.
He head snapped up and he looked at me, realization showing in his eyea.
"I....I'm sorry...."
"Don't be..."
We look into each other's eyes for a bit in silence, and his eyes began to water. He noticed and turned away.
"We should get back to the village..." he muttered under his breath as he started pushing himself up off the ground.
We start walking off and he just looked down at his feet.
"Kakashi.....what happened in the genjutsu?"
"His head snapped up and he looked straight ahead, surprised by my question.
".......haven't you heard the stories about me...?"
"Stories..?"
"You'll think less of me when you hear them, that I can guaranty......"
"Try me..."
He laughed sadly.
"I'm Kakashi Hatake......I caused both my teammates to die............and I had to re-live.....killing Rin..." he choked on the last two words.
"I didn't mean for them to die.....I swear....but you probably won't believe me.......will you?..."
"I believe you, Kakashi...."
He looked up at me in shock.
"You....you do?"
I nodded. A tear rolled down his cheek but he quickly wiped it it away.
"I-I'm sorry..I-...!"
I pulled him into my arms before he could finish his sentence and I hugged tightly.
"There's nothing wrong with crying.....the ninja rules don't apply when you're with me, alright?"
He hesitated, but nodded, slowly wrapping his arms around my waist and hugging me back. He cried quietly for a few minutes while I stroked his hair. After a bit he regained his composure and I released him from my arms. He gave me a grateful look but then saw that my face had paled and his eyes widened. He looked down at my stomach and then back up at my face to see some blood leaking out of my mouth. I could see the panic in his eyes and I smiled at him.
"I'm sorry...." I whispered softly, passing out in front of him and being caught in his arms.
Kakashi POV
"I'm sorry...." she whispered softly, passing out in front of me and being caught by my trembling arms.
'What just happened?' I asked myself in panic as I looked down at her peaceful, blood covered complexion.
'I don't even have the energy to bring her back to the village...'
I sighed and held her close.
"DYNAMIC ENTRY!!" Gai yelled as he flew in through the tree's in a jump kick and landed in front of us.
"OH! I NEVER THOUGHT THE DAY WOULD COME WHEN MY RIVAL WOULD LOOK SO DEFEATED!" he yelled while running over to us.
"Is that your new teammate?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
I sighed loudly.
"Now's not the time for this, Gai. She needs medical attention."
He looked down, then noticing her wound.
"Oh...I see....." he mumbled, his expression softening as he walked over and picked her up, giving her a piggy back.
"C'mon, I'll help you walk." he offered, holding out a hand and pulling me up.
We then began heading back towards the village and I gave in our mission report before going to the hospital because of the mental trauma I'd just suffered, along with Claire, who was going to get her wounds treated.
