Chapter 9: Secrets

Claire POV

I awoke in Kakashi's arms and I smiled up at his sleeping face. His handsome face that appeared to have been sculpted by an artist. This man was beautiful.

"Hey beautiful..." he greeted sleepily as we made eye contact.

"Morning handsome." I greeted back.

He smiled and pulled me into his arms. I kissed his nose and I giggled at his small blush.

"So what are we gonna do today?" he asked before I remembered that I was supposed to go speak with lord Hokage again.

"I guess we could go out for breakfast..?" I suggested.

"Sounds great." he replied before getting up.

"That reminds me..."

He turned to look at me. "Hmm?"

"Oh, there's just somewhere I have to go later, I won't be gone long, though."

"Alright..."

"Well, I have to go take a shower. Care to join me?" he asked flirtatiously.

I chuckled. "Sure."

After showering and getting dressed, we headed out to a restaurant for breakfast. We ate while engaging in small talk and then I looked at the time.

'Crap...' I thought.

Kakashi seemed to notice a change in my expression and he nudged my shoulder.

"What is it?"

"I have to go for a bit, I'll see you later, okay?"

"Okay."

Kakashi POV

Being, well, the ninja that I was, I'd become slightly suspicious. Yes, I knew I should trust her... but I couldn't help but have this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. So I decided to follow her to wherever she was going, which happened to be the Hokage's building.

'See, Kakashi? You had nothing to worry about.' I told myself, before...eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Your mission is becoming more and more successful every day, Claire. I am proud of you."

"You flatter me, Lord Hokage."

I heard him let out a puff of smoke from his pipe.

"Rumor says that you and Kakashi have been getting closer and closer. I'm impressed, I never expected the mission to take you this far."

'What..?'

I made sure to conceal my chakra as I continued to eavesdrop.

"The fact that this is a mission must remain a secret... if he were to find out, he would be devastated..."

"Very well, Lord Hokage..."

"Continue to make him happy, I'm counting on you."

"I will do my best."

I saw her walk out of the building and I quickly headed home and locked the door behind myself.

Claire POV

I appreciated that the Hokage was bothering to praise me, but... this mission didn't feel like a mission... I believed I was falling for Kakashi all over again. As crazy as it may have sounded, even though my emotions were basically dulled while I was travelling alone as a spy, and an ANBU for all these years... It seemed he was awakening them again... and I didn't mind. I thought what I felt when I was around him was...this emotion called joy.

I kept walking until I reached his house and I knocked on the door.

"..."

No answer.

I knocked again, and the door opened revealing Kakashi. As soon as his eyes landed on me, his gaze becomes a glare.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

"The question is, what isn't wrong..?"

"I beg your pardon?"

"It doesn't matter...all I am to you is a mission, right?!"

"What...? No...I-"

"Another lie? Just what I was waiting for..."

"Kakashi, listen..!-"

"No, I'm done with your bullshit, we're through." he finished, slamming the door in my face.

Rain began to pour, and I just stood there staring at the door.
