A/N: I'm sorry, it's been 2 more years since the last chapter, and at least 5 years since I started writing this book, so my writing style probably changed a lot from chapter to chapter, and I was so close to the end, but around when I started writing this chapter, my grandfather died and I just couldn't keep writing it, you know? Considering the subject matter, too. But I'm sure most people forgot this story by now anyway.

A/N 2021: I once again was not consistent. The worst part is we're so close to done this book so I can't just not finish it, my ocd won't let me. Imagine, years ago I wanted to make a sequel.  Happy New Year, I'm still kicking somehow, even though it seemed like my life fell apart this year, I also gained a lot from it. Anyway, back to the book. I started it 6 years ago when I was 15. Now I turn 21 in a month, crazy. I'm so sorry to everyone who waited so long for an ending and thank you so much for reading. <3 Much love to you all. ~ Sonia

As she laid still, the doctor turned towards the shaken father.

"Kakashi... I'm sorry. She's too far gone, there's nothing we can do."

He didn't move,

nor would it sink in.

Everything in the room was still.

How many times can someone lose everything before they break?

Somehow...
I'm still here.

All that's left... Is a part of her.

What kind of father will I be..?

I could never save those dear to me...
I can't  ever let anything happen to him...
I promise I'll keep him safe...Claire.

Kakashi stroked her pale, sunken face, her thin arms. He knelt down next to her and held her hand, a tear running down his cheek.

He kept his head down, let out a shaky breath and without looking up, he spoke.

"...Doctor, please give me a moment..."

"Of course, again, I'm so sorry..."

The doctor left the room and closed the door behind him. Kakashi waited until he could no longer hear footsteps and be began to sob.

"Claire... I'm sorry we never got to get married... I'm sorry I couldn't protect you... I'm so sorry..."

He buried his face in her hand and cried, before he knew it he'd cried himself to sleep at the bedside, their oblivious, now motherless child asleep in the corner of the room.

He spent the next day refusing to leave her bedside and followed her until the day of her funeral.

. . .

In the evening, rain began to fall, pitter-pattering on the open casket, and waking up the child in Gai's arms.
He began to cry.

Kakashi got up and went to get his son, bringing him over to his mother, a tear rolling down his cheek, mixing in with the rain.

"Say goodbye to mommy, it's just you and me now kiddo..." he whispered.

Gai sniffled and wiped his eye, and the Hokage looked down, wearing a dark expression on his face. He felt responsible in a sense, he felt he should have known something like this would happen.

Greedy snake... what did you get out of this? Nothing.

Jiraiya was there too. Standing arms crossed behind the others, silent next to Tsunade who'd lost yet another family member. She vowed to help the child and protect him in growth.

Oh, how she loathed her old comrade.

They were going to the bar together after this.

After the child calmed down and kind words were spoken by close ones, silence followed, broken later by Kakashi.

"It's an incredible thing..."

The surprised crowd looked over at him.

"When you can bare your heart to someone..." his voice broke.

"...Make life with them. Love them fully..."

"...She..."

He covered his mouth and turned away from everyone, and began walking away with his son in one arm.

Thanks to Claire he will never truly be alone, and he will always have a part of her.
