The Manager

Christoph looked up so fast I thought he might break his neck. A tall man, somewhere in his thirties, stood menacingly, staring straight at us. His eyes were filled with absolute fury, and his mouth was contorted into a sickening grin. His shadow seemed to creep.

"What is this?" He asked Christoph, crossing his arms.

Christoph pulled away from me, and gently pushed me behind him. Which kind of pissed me off as I was no damsel in distress, but also alarmed me as his eyes flashed with fear.

"You are supposed to be dating Yancy." He growled, taking a step closer.

"I told you I don't want to." Christoph whispered.

"Does your contract tell you that what you think matters? You don't own your life anymore. I do. And I will keep on doing whatever I want." He glared.

Christoph glared, but said nothing.

"I told you to forget about this girl," he said as he took another step forward "but you go behind my back and do whatever you want anyway. You know what, I've decided that you're not earning me enough money." He smiled.

"Oh yeah?" Christoph questioned.

"I've been talking with Yancy's manager, and we've come to an agreement."

"Oh what the hell now?"

"You and Yancy are going to get married."

Christoph clenched his fist as his eyes widened. I felt like a brick, useless and stiff. There was nothing I could do.

"And if I refuse?" Christoph challenged, meeting his managers eyes.

"As your contract states, if you decide to become a problem, your family will owe me all of my money that I've been giving them. Imagine all the money I would get from the press! A wedding between celebrities! Money would be rolling in from everywhere!" He laughed.

"It's my money."

"Never was you idiot." He manger chuckled.

Christoph looked down, his face pale and tinged green. His eyes became lifeless, emotion seeping out. Would I ever be able to see them like I had saw them only moments ago? With laughter, love and kindness, towards me? He ground his teeth, and stared at the ground.

"Now hold on a moment."

A familiar blonde head walked up from behind Christophs manager, as he tapped him on the shoulder he waved a piece of paper in front of his face.

"Where did you get that from?" The manager asked, shocked as he made a wild grab for it.

"Where I got it from doesn't matter. The fact is I've been reading it over and analysing it for two minutes and can already see how dumb you are." Jake laughed, easily dodging the managers lurches.

He walked up to the confused Christoph and handed him the contract.

"I've never liked this business. So I've been studying at the best law schools around the world to become the best lawyer." Jake spat, " so I can put men like you in your place."

The manager stepped backward in lost composure, but quickly regained his balance. He snickered, as if Jake didn't faze him.

"As section four states in this contract, Christoph may never have another manager, unless he is dropped. But section seven states that if he were to get a new manager, he would have to ask the permission of your boss, my father, which renders the fact that he can't get himself another manager useless." Jake stated.
