Chapter 2

Chrys

So my name is Chrys. When people ask me why I was named Chrys they think it's a sick joke on my parents' behalf. I was named Chrys because my parents thought they were having a girl. They were going to name it Chrystal. Well Mom and Dad I'm a boy. They named me Chrys because well... you get the point.

Anyway, I was born in 13 but everyone is afraid of me, somewhat. I was born with something that defies physics. My blood is a transparent blue color. Like ice... I have shaggy black hair, and eyes a deep sea blue.

I've been here sixteen years in 13, it sucks! I am always afraid of being watched. It's just so creepy.

My parents are smart because when I was born they told the doctors "he probably has different pigments in his blood". Well that's true except one crucial detail.

I can freeze water. I can also create frost everywhere I touch. Mainly I'm just cold.

Another thing about me that puts a cherry on top is I'm abused. My Dad hits me all the time and my mom is never here to see. Even if she does see she chooses to ignore it.

So when this morning came..."Come on Brat! It's time to leave." Dad throws a cup of water on me. "Oh wow! Good morning to you to Dad" The water freezes. He's half way out the door when he says "You... you call me sir." That's when he's gone.

I take a really hot shower- I have to it freezes on me if I don't-and put on my uniform that was mailed to me. I know I can take

one thing so I take the silver knife my sister, Ella, gave to me. It has a blue sapphire in the center to represent ice.

I walk down the stairs to find three plates and three cups, one plate and cup for mom, one plate and cup for dad, and one plate and cup for Ella. They are sitting around the table starring at me dumbfounded.

"What?" I ask. Ella, who is eight, gets up and hugs me. "I'll miss you." She says her warm arms surrounding me. "I'll miss you too Ella" I reply hugging her back. "I'm bringing your knife." I whisper in her ear. I let go and see a grin on her face. She runs back to her plate and picks up her blueberry muffin wrapped in a napkin. She hands it to me. "Thanks" She nods "I love you Chrys" "I love you too Ella." I walk out the door in silence.

I just notice the monorail that has been waiting for me is leaving. I run and stuff the wrapped muffin in my pocket.

There is a blonde girl on the monorail yelling something to the front of the car. She gets angry and pries the door open. She then extends a hand to me and I take it. She pulls me aboard and shuts the door.

"It must be cold out there your hands are freezing." I catch my breath and reply "It must be hot in here your hands are warm." She smiles and puts out her hand "I'm Blaze." I grab her hand and shake it. "I'm Chrys." She lets go and says "Nice to meet you" I smile.

We sit down on the seats given. At first it's silent. She's starring off into oblivion out the window. I finally break the silence "Where ya headin?" "Same place your heading." She says with a smile. "How did y- This monorail is for the boarding school" She interrupts. "Oh yeah." I say feeling embarrassed.

The rest of the ride is silent. There are a few pick ups but we eventually get there.

I stick with Blaze. She seems like she doesn't mind. The monorail gets unloaded, and finally Blaze says something. "You know, you don't talk much". "Well neither do you." I say looking into her eyes I realize one is green and one is blue. "Hey! Your eyes, they're calico." She turns away and stares straight ahead. "They do that sometimes".

The next thing I know I'm in a line behind Blaze heading to registration. After a few minutes she's up.

"Name?" The registration guy asks. "Blaze Rarnes". He searches for the name. He finds it and says "Room 2139, 21st floor". He gives her a key and she begins to walk away.

I grab her arm "Hey! See you soon" She blushes and says "Ok".

"Next!" the guy yells. I step forward. "Name?" "Chrys Connors" He searches. "Room 852, 8th floor". He hands me a key. "Thanks" I walk to get in the elevator. I punch in the button eight and stare out the glass window facing the city.
