Chapter 15

Jade

The moment the alarm clock wakes me up I hear a knock on the door. I get up and open it. There is Edan and Wendell standing there looking me right in the eye.

"Can I help you?" "No but we can help you." Edan says walking in the room. Wendell follows. "What's going on?" "We heard Chrys and Blaze talking on the roof last night after Edan's game." Wendell replies. "So..." "They said something about lying low and not telling us something." Edan shrugs. "Guys they are probably dating now it's obvious they would. They are perfect. Now if you excuse me I have get dressed and ready for breakfast."

"Really? Why would they need us to lay low then?" I hesitate. That's a good question.

My eyes are finally focused now from the sleep and I look behind Wendell's head. There is a security camera staring back. "Oh my gosh. We are being watched." Wendell and Edan turn around. They freak out. "We are. That means they saw everything in the- Edan says until Wendell hands clamps down on her mouth.

"Maybe they just did it today or last night they probably don't even know what we did. Until then we need to lie low and tell Chrys and Blaze we know." Wendell says calmly.

"See you at breakfast." I say wanting them out now." I push them out the door and face the camera. "At least they won't know about me." I say quietly under my breath. I reach for the camera and touch it on the lens. It shuts off. "Hey it works for technology too." I walk away proudly into the bathroom and get in the shower.

I don't say a word because there is no one to say a word to.

I'm completely alone.

I brush my hair and teeth. The clock says 6:45. I head out the door.

I always go down the stairs knowing there'll be a crowd in the elevators. I slide down the railing like Blaze showed me. It's kind of fun actually.

I walk out of the designated door on the bottom floor when I see two guards wearing a black suit and black sun glasses.

"What are you doing her Jade?" The left one says. I flinch when I hear my name. "Going down the stairs, it's quicker that way because there is always a crowd by the elevators." I say calmly. "Carry on." The right one says.

I walk away quickly not turning back. I hear their hushed voices "Wasn't she the one who killed Caitlin." I walk faster.

When I get there Edan and Wendell are sitting their eating. I remember the cameras and suddenly I'm not hungry.

I skip the food and walk to the table to sit by Wendell. Edan gets a little pinker by the sight of that.

It's silent until Chrys and Blaze sit down. That instant Wendell speaks up "Why didn't you tell us!" "What was I supposed to do kill you?" Chrys says stabbing his knife in the table. I sit down and wait till I need to speak up. "How were we supposed to know to lay low if we didn't notice the cameras." Edan says. "Were you spying on us?" Edan sits back down and turn bright red.

"Wow! You don't even trust me as your friend!" "I never said that!" I feel my time to speak up. "You were thinking it!"

"Guys!" I say. Everyone stares at me. "Can't we just focus on the problem at hand? I mean if we need to lay low we aren't helping our selves." "Shut it death trap." Blaze says probably without thinking. I get mad. "Really, you want to go hot head. You won't last a minute." We are nose to nose starring into each other's eyes. That takes a lot of courage because my eyes are freaky.

I realize she was holding her tray. She lets go and leaves. There are melted hand prints on the tray. The bells rings, and the rest of the day doesn't go smoothly. I barely know what day it is but I know that if tomorrow is Saturday I'm home free. We get our weekends off to do what they call metal testing. The basically look inside our mind while we are asleep.

I realize in my second class it's Friday. Dang it!

Edan and Blaze don't say a word to each other and neither do we. It's kind of hard for Edan and Blaze because they are roommates.

We just go to bed in silence.
