Chapter 9
Jade
I look different and I feel different. Everyone has been staring at me but not saying anything. This one guy asked me out while I was organizing my papers and I looked up and he just walked away. I'm guessing it was my eyes. They are creepy.
It turns out I don't need Blaze's and Edan's dorm, Caitlin has disappeared. It's fine with me. It's better off for everyone, me sleeping in a dorm alone. I wake up to many times and I thrash around.
I woke up one morning on the ground, with my bed sheets everywhere. That's okay though. There are people who come in our rooms during breakfast and clean our rooms.
I was going to breakfast and I noticed that Dell is back. I sat down with the bowl of gruel and my mashed strawberries. No one says a word, although Dell is starring at me. We eat the meal in silence. Not one word.
When it's five minutes from leaving Dell finally -thank God- speaks up "I need to talk to you guys." He is still looking down at his food, but his spoon is down. Everyone looks up at him, but Edan. Blaze says "Well it's about time we have been sitting here for almost half an hour with out one word from anyone!" I have never heard Blaze speak with that tone.
Dell looks up and stares at Blaze in the eye. Blaze glares back. She looks like she is about to burst into flames. "I think I saw the future" Dell says keeping is glare. This gets Edan's attention, but she says nothing. "What happened" Chrys says looking like the only one who cares besides me.
"When I was asleep I had a dream" Dell replies. Three minutes. "And..." I say. Edan finally looks up. "I was in this black room strapped to a chair." Two minutes. "Then a mirror appeared in front of me. Beside the mirror were four things." All four of us have our attention. "A torch..." Blaze flinches. "A shard of ice..." Chrys's eyes narrow. "A leaf..." Edan looks down. One minute. "And a vial of poison." That's me, but I make no sign for anyone to know. "What happen-the beep of the intercom interrupts Blaze. "Attention students! This is your principal saying that Vent is now putting in a law for everything to be watched. There will be cameras in the dorms, in the classrooms in the cafeteria in your houses in the Hu- Oh by the way there is no leaving this building anymore until you graduate. All your personal items will be thrown away except the hooded jackets. That is all. Thank you." Beep.
There are signs of minor panic in the cafeteria. "Why are these jackets so important to them?" asks Chrys. Blaze replies "Beats me, now if you'll excuse me I have to hide my one thing from home." That second everyone at our table gets up to go do the same exact thing.
