Chapter 16

Chrys

I look at Blaze differently know since the incident yesterday. I used to see her as a cool, mellow, cute little girl. Not anymore. I see her know as a fiery (literally), dangerous, troubled girl. I like it.

I wake up by the alarm and almost cut my finger off. The knife is sitting right by the alarm clock. It's Saturday. "Why can't the world just leave me alone!" I hear myself crying out. I feel a cold wind pull away my covers. "Get up snow ball, we have mental testing today."

"What happened to laying low?" "It turns out they can see us but not hear us." "And that helps how?" "They might I had strings to pull the covers off. Get in the shower." "Since when did you turn into my wife?"

I get up and get in the shower like my fiancé told me to do. I get cleaned up and dressed. Then I sit on my bed twirling my knife.

"When do we do the testing?" He shrugs. I few moments later the intercom goes on. "Testing will be before lunch." "Well isn't that convenient." "I would think so." I say.

"Do you think they are mad?" I can't help but ask. "Who?" "Blaze and Edan, at each other." "Nah I think Jade and Blaze are the ones who should be mad." That seems legit.

The rest of the day is boring just sitting around doing nothing. Especially if we have nothing! We play chopsticks with our fingers for a few hours.

"Like I said why cant the world just leave me alone!" He chuckles. The clock says 11:45. We should head down. We stopped going down the rails because we know we are being watched and get to the bottom where there is a crowd of people.

A raspy voice speaks in a microphone. "We will have rooms where the testing is. You will lie down on a chair while we look inside your mind. You will tell us your biggest fears and combine them into your worst nightmare. Your room mate will watch on a screen what's inside your mind. It helps build relationships. Find your room and don't die."

"Thanks for the advice!" Wendell yells out. A couple people laugh. We walk to a square looking room that matches the other with our names and room numbers.

What do I do! I can't go one second without think fire or ice or plants or that stuff. I'm doomed. I step inside with Wendell and there is a well built guy with tattoos all over his body and face.

"Shall we begin?" He gestures to me. I gulp. I sit in the chair while Wendell leaves. He gives me thumbs up and mouths the words good luck.

"Drink this." He hands me a red glass and I drink it. "Just calm your mind. On the outside I look as cool as a cucumber but on the inside I'm freaking out. I need something to distract me.

Blaze.

It was the first thing I could think of. "What's your biggest fear?" I haven't really though about that. I guess I'm afraid of being alone.

"loneliness." I say flatly he nods and pushes in numbers. "Close your eyes and be calm." I close my eyes and am calm and suddenly I'm in a room.

It's a plain black room with a chair. I turn away from the chair and when I turn back she's sitting there. Blaze.

I try to talk but nothing comes out. Blaze looks at me confused. "Aren't you gonna say hello or hi to me?" She gets up and walks around me.

"Why won't you answer me, Chrys." She says with a wry smile.

"Chrys please if you love me just say something." She pauses looking me in the eye. I just can't talk though.

She begins to cry. "I guess I was wrong." She begins to walk away. I beg and pleas silently. I'm on my knees and I'm hopeless. She gets absorbed in blackness.

I'm all alone.

I wake up. Sitting forward really fast I almost head butt the tattoo guy on the chest. "You did well, you can leave." I leave silently and see Wendell in front of the screen.

"You're obsessed with her aren't you?" "Yes." "You're really creepy you know that right?" "Yes." He shrugs and walks in the door. It takes a few minutes but the screen flashes to life.

Wendell is sitting tied up in a chair surrounded by mirrors. He looks straight ahead at the mirror in front of him. Edan begins walking towards him in the mirror. Right when Edan reaches the mirror it breaks.

Soon enough every mirror is broken and there is an old fashioned bell ringing really loud. You can hear Jade screaming faintly through the bell.

The screen darkens and Wendell walks out breathing heavily. I open my mouth to say something when Wendell says "Don't judge me!"
