Chapter 14

Wendell

I haven't had a good night sleep since... ever! I get up from the bed making the sheets rustle making Chrys wake up. "Good morning hot shot." I say heading to the bathroom. "Shut up!" He exclaims. "Don't use all the hot water." I don't want to freeze." He calls out. "Ya, ya, whatever."

I think it's so much better like this. I finally can talk to someone about this. There is no more hiding. I take a moderately fast shower because what Chrys said freaked me out. When I get out I hear Chrys get in.

I put on the same old black pants and shoes. Edan walks in. (Thank God I'm only missing my shirt) "Hey." I speak up a little embarrassed. "Whatcha doing here?" I can't help but ask. "Nothing just wanted to say good morning." I give her a "really, that's why?" face. She relaxes and says "Blaze wanted to see Chrys for a moment."

"Oh ya he's in the shower." I pause. "They clearly have something going." I continue. "Ya." Awkward. Not awkward because of her but awkward because my shirt is off. "Anything else?" I ask her. "No, but I think I'm gonna be going now."

She turns and heads out the door. I kinda miss her presence. The shower turns off and I'm thinking "it's about time!"

I put on my shirt and go back to comb my hair and brush my teeth. When I'm done Chrys is putting on the black shoes. "I thought I heard talking?" "You did. Edan and Blaze were here. Blaze wanted to talk to you." "Dude!" "What!" "I could've talked to her." "You were in the shower."

I smile and he shakes his head. "Want to have your hair have a wind swept look?" I ask. "Teach me." He says spreading his hands apart. "Ok!" I shoot wind at his head knocking him off his bed. I can't stop laughing. He peeks over the bed. "How do I look?" He smiles.

"Dude! Stop I'm gonna pee." "Yes or No?" He frowns. "You look fabulous my darling." I say in the weirdest accent on the planet. I can barely get through the sentence I'm laughing so hard.

After the fun and games we leave the dorm and head to breakfast. We get our serving of oatmeal and applesauce. Blaze and Edan are already sitting and eating. We sit down, and look at Blaze.

"What?" she asks. "Chrys needs to talk to you." I spit out. Chrys punches me in the arm. "Ow!" My arm gets a cold shock. "Really?" Blaze turns red. Chrys nods. "Nice abs by the way." Edan pipes up.

"Thank you. I don't think anyone else appreciates abs anyway here." We laugh. "Where's Jade?" I feel the need to ask because she's not here. Edan's smile fades. "I don't know I haven't seen her." Blaze says confused.

That second Jade walks in. "Hello." Jade sits down. "Anyone coming to my game tonight." Edan asks. "I'm sorry Edan I have homework I wish I could." "That's okay. Chrys?" "I can't either I have... homework too." I know he's lying but I choose to ignore it. "Jade?" She blushes. "I have detention." "Why?" Edan says in a squeaky voice. "I almost killed a person."

Everyone seems calm about it. I think I'm having second thoughts about sitting by her. "Dell?" "I'm free." "Cool" Edan blushes even more. "Cool" She looks me in the eye. "Oooooh." Blaze smiles. "What?" I'm confused. "Nothing." She nudges Chrys. Chrys nudges back. They do that the whole meal.

I think it much brighter at our table ever since we came together like this. It's nice to actually have friends like me.

"Chrys what's your first class?" "Archery" he says. "Yeah me too" we high five across the table. We get up and head to class.

"So how are you and Blaze?" I nudge him. He smiles. "That is none of your business- Hey!" he bumps into a guard in a black suit and black glasses. "Sorry. Chrys. Wendell." He walks off. "How'd he know our names?" "I don't know. Who do like better Edan or Jade?" "I don't know. I guess Edan because jade kinda freaks me out." "No dur. She gives me the hee-bee jee-bees."

The rest of the day is pretty boring. Until I get to Edan's game. We walk there together in silence. She sits me in a good spot to watch the game. And may I say she is really good against the other girls in this game. Her team won because of her. She is fast at avoiding the traps. About one out of five traps would get her.

I was the only one cheering her on though. If only the others could see this. They would be impressed. The score was 5 to 12. Edan made half of those goals.

When we were done I promised to walk her to her dorm. We were pretty much laughing the whole way. Making fun of the other players. When she got to her dorm there was no one in there. So we went to my dorm no one in there either.

We went to the roof. And quietly opened the door. Blaze and Chrys we talking. I could hear what they were saying. "We can't tell them Blaze they'll just freak out." "I know I know it's just...we gotta lay low." We got bored and left.

We didn't say a word to each other the way to our dorms. I went to bed without doing anything else. Wondering what could Blaze and Chrys could've possibly said up on the roof.
