~your perspective~

I was holding Colby's hand when I drifted off to sleep. I was about half asleep when I heard Colby. He began to sing "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. My god he sounded amazing.
I joined in "Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song
When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight."
When Colby knew I was awake, he brought out a guitar.
"I thought you only played saxophone and clarinet." I turning over to look at him.
"Me too. But I just kinda taught myself during the days between us met and moving day." Colby proudly said.
"Wow. All in a couple of weeks. Impressive."
Colby then starts to play the rest of the song on guitar while I sang.
"Holy shit guys." Devyn say, "that great!" Devyn comes in and sits on an open couch cushion.
"Thanks." Colby puts the guitar back on its stand.
"Hey, _____, do you think you feel well enough to help me with something?" Devyn asks.
"Of course. What do you need?"
"Well, I was thinking about pranking Corey."
"Oo. Sounds fun."
"What if we were to buy symbols and if we are lucky enough, he'll be asleep when we get back from the store."
"Great!" I say getting up.
"Colby." Devyn says as Colby walks away.
"Yeah?"
"I want you to play as loud as you can when we prank him. You'll be involved too."
"Will do!" Colby says giving a thumbs up.
"Let's go to Party City, _____." Devyn says grabbing her car keys.
"Sounds great." I said putting on my jacket.
"Hey! It's snowing!" Devyn was standing in drive.
"Woah. It hasn't snowed since I moved to California. That was 5 years ago." I held out my hand looking out the snowflakes I had caught.
Colby walks outside followed by everyone else.
"I haven't experienced a true snow like this since Kansas." Sam said looking up at the sky while walking around.
Colby screams in pain. I turn around to find him on the ground. His left leg was underneath him.
"COLBY!" I run over to him.
"I-I slipped on some ice. I can't move my leg. It hurts too much."
"That's fine, baby." I say doing the best I can to comfort him. I see fear and pain in his eyes. His eyes aren't blue the always are. They're darker and full of emotion.
"Yeah, Colby's not getting up. He's too hurt. Someone please call 911." I say looking back.
I hear a faint siren. It grows along with my fear for Colby. I hope he's ok.
When the ambulance pulls up, we both answer some question.
"Okay, Mr. Brock, we are gonna take you to the hospital. It doesn't look that bad. I know it's not broken for sure." A man with a stern voice says.
I sigh out of relief. So does Colby.
"See you there, babe." I reassure Colby as they wheel him into the ambulance.
"Oh and Devyn, the prank on Corey is off." I say knowing Corey would get offended.
"Hey!" Colby surely was offended.
"Y'all are a clumsy couple." Elton comments.
"You know it." I laugh.

"Well I gonna go visit Colby. Anyone wanna come?" I ask grabbing my car keys.
"I will." Sam said.
"Ok. You can ride with me."

A song came on the radio.
"Ah shit. Not this one. I'm gonna cry." I say already trying not to.
"All I want is nothing more." I sing. I love this song, but I cry.
"Then to hear you knocking on my door." Sam joins in.
"If I could see your face once more." Sam lets me take the high parts.
"I could die a happy man I'm sure.
I harmonize with Sam "when you said your last goodbye." Sam looks astonished.
"I died a little bit in side."
"I lay in tears in bed all night."
"Alone without you by my side."
"But if you loved me. Why you leave me. Take my body. Take my body."
I turn the radio station "Yeah that's all I can handle, Sam." I wipe away a tear.
"Aw why you crying, _____?" Sam asked
"I just thought about Colby the whole time and what it would be like without him. I always do this to myself. Whyyy?"
Sam laughs to himself.
We pull up and walk in.
"We're here to see Colby Brock?" I say to receptionist.
"Ok. Just follow me." The older lady said opening a door for us to enter through.
"Mr. Brock? You have some visitors. Oh and..."
"I'm _____ and that's Sam."
"Right. He will be going home today."
"Great! Can we just take him home with us?"
"I don't see why not?" The older lady walked away.
We walked into the room. Colby had the tv on. His foot was propped up on a pillow. He's wearing a boot.
"They said I had an incomplete fracture. The bone just doubled up on its self." I flinch when he said that.
"So you're fine?" Sam asked.
"Yeah. They just gave me some pain meds and they're gonna send me home with you it looks like."
Colby is much calmer now. And so am I now that I know he's ok. I notice his eyes are much more blue now. I smile.
I realize I might look a little creepy just standing there smiling.
"Yeah we just gotta sign you out." I comment trying not be embarrassed.
I walk up to the front desk. Sam stayed back with Colby. I signed him out for good.
"Alright. I'll go get him."
"My friend is with him." I made sure she wouldn't didn't think Sam was trespassing. Like usual.
She comes back with both.
"Thanks. Bye." I said walking out the door.
"Colby, there's a pillow in the back for you."I said opening the door for him.
"Thanks." Colby got in the car. His foot slammed on the floor.
"That's heavier than I thought." He commented.

I look back in the rear view mirror and find Colby peacefully asleep.
