It had been a couple of days or weeks; I didn't know for sure, I'd lost count of time since I had last encountered him and I couldn't have been more grateful for that. Although, he hadn't accepted my resignation I had taken matters into my own hand and resolved to quit waiting for the damned acceptance of my resignation letter and to find myself a new job because I was in drastic need of one. Besides, I wouldn't be able to survive on my savings for long. I didn't want to, just in case, I needed the savings for future accidents or when I was incapacitated, gray and wrinkly.
I had been seeking a job before I had finally come across a hardware shop. They were employing other workers because their purchases were rising exceptionally fast and they didn't wish to lose any profit just because they were short on workers. Even though, it wasn't what I came through it; I agreed to accept the position and work there. The store was called 'Rick's ware store' It was a weird name for a hardware store and had taken it upon myself to resolve my curiosity and inquire why it was mentioned that way.
Mr. Rick, himself, acknowledged my query by stating that it was very prevalent for every hardware store to be called a hardware store so he decided to name it something unique, hence, the name. My first week was pleasant enough, and I even managed to befriend some of my Co-workers. The store was kinda scary, and it made me feel really awkward at first. One of my Co-workers, Jimmy, said that everyone there felt that way at first but they all got comfortable once they got the hang of things.
The store was huge, and I didn't expect a store, specifically a hardware one to be this big. Every individual piece had its own aisle, from big boards to small screws and kernels, every individual item was in place and I was genuinely impressed because I hadn't expected a hardware store to be so nicely sustained. I was presently on my third week of work in this store and me and my new friend, Jenny, who's also my co-worker were loading and organizing bits and bobs of supplies here and there.
''Hey, did you know what carl did yesterday?'' she asked, glancing at me sideways, all the while piling packed, small boxes of nails on top of one another.
''No, I don't think so,'' I answered, trying to remember what exactly carl had done, and I'd missed. It must've been something unusual as I could see Jenny's eyes glinting mischievously.
Jenny was the gossip girl of our store. She would always find new gossip to share with me. She would claim she trusted me the most and add a bit of her own spice to the story to make it sound more interesting than it originally was. Her fiery red hair and grayish-blue eyes were an odd combination but it didn't do anything to steer me away. If anything, it made me want to become her friend even more and although my chatter-box of a friend would never admit it; she was beautiful and could have any guy she wanted.
''He hooked up with Carla-the cashier- in the parking lot!'' she whisper-yelled, throwing an evil grin towards me. I think ''Hooking-up'' In her dictionary means dry humping against a car in an empty parking lot.
