A Gripping Fear

I aimlessly walked into my apartment building, occasionally tumbling on nothing. I was still tremendously shook. The words of Vidushi revolved in my head like a tornado, jumbling my thoughts in a whirlpool. It was quite hard for me to understand how much in dark Randhir was. The story according to Vidushi made a whole different sense than the things I had heard from Randhir back then.

I knew that Randhir was the illegitimate child of Harshvardhan Shekhawat. He had told me that he was taken into his father's house when he was four along with his mother whom Mr.Shekhawat had married and stayed with but didn't actually give her the exposure that a Shekhawat wife deserved and neither the respect. Randhir had also expressed the strong hatred he felt for the second wife of his father, Mrs Rohini Shekhawat apparently who insisted on him and his mother going and staying in the Shekhawat mansion after they were discovered by her.
But he didn't clear out the cause behind his hatred towards her which was kind of absurd.

Rehaan Shekhawat, the first son of Mr. Shekhawat loved Randhir dearly but when he took over the empire at the young age of eighteen, he started despising Randhir all of a sudden. Well that wasn't hard for me to figure out as I imagined the reason behind that might have been Rehaan's insecurity regarding Randhir being the second heir of the Empire. He might have felt that his chair was threatened in Randhir's presence and that might have been the reason behind sending Randhir away to Chicago so that he stayed far away from the Empire affairs. Apart from all that, I still didn't know the rest of the incidents which compelled Randhir to almost commit suicide. The thought itself made me shiver with fear as I waited for the elevator to stop at my floor.

The lights on the lift started to flicker all of a sudden making me jump a little. Can't the universe be on my side for at least a day? The elevator rumbled and came into a jerky stop almost tripping me. I clutched the railing for support as the lights went off suddenly.

HOLY CHEESE ON CRACKERS!

I immediately pulled out my phone and tried calling Randhir. Surprisingly his cell rang but he didn't pick it up. Why did I even give him a cellphone if he couldn't keep it with him all the time? I groaned and called the watchman.

He told me that there had been some kind of electrical fault and they were working on it. He also added that they'll make the elevator start once they manage to rectify the fault, obviously after getting seriously threatened by me. I didn't know what made me more angry, the fact that I couldn't confront Randhir after knowing the actual facts from Vidushi because I was stuck in a freaking elevator or that my eyes were getting blurry with the passing seconds. Oh yeah, I was kind of claustrophobic but situational. Gah what fun!

I didn't know how many times I kicked the elevator floor and groaned like a hyena.

I trailed my back down the wall as I collapsed onto the floor, clutching my bag tightly against my chest. Vidushi's words rang in my ears as I went back into the flashback.

After she told me that Keya Malhotra, the supposed girl who broke Randhir's heart was involved in Randhir's mother's death, I was shocked.

"No..no.. But she seemed so harmless and kind of a...um..dumb bimbo when we saw her in the airport today.."

"She is a dumb bimbo anyway but she's also a big gold digger.. She is a bitch who can do anything for money..You're too naive Sanyukta and within the few minutes of our interaction, I kind of have an idea that you're one of those people who always dig for the good in others.." Her words definitely made me warm up a little but the venom with which she said all those things about Keya kind of increased my already raging curiosity.
