Chapter 9.

Birthdays.

The other day it was my best friend Hepsi's birthday. All of us like me, Mona, Sarath, Abhliash, Sophia and Abhishek were planning to spend it together with her.

The night before her birthday, Hepsi called me and said, "Hey, mostly its couples coming tomorrow and I don't want you to feel left out, so I want you to invite Akshay as well."

"Oh. Hey, I don't know. It would be really awkward for him because he doesn't know any of you and all that Hep." I said.

"Nah idiot. Shut up and ask him to come. He will come for your sake, I know. And it will be nice." She said.

"Okay. I will ask him. I don't know if he has other plans. It's a maybe though Hep." I said still trying to make excuses.

"Shut up. He has to definitely come tomorrow. Go ask." She said with that determined and strict no more arguments tone she uses on me sometimes.

"Okay Hep. See you tomorrow." I said and hung up on her.

When she called I was in middle of tuition class and didn't know whether to call him immediately or sometime later.

Debating for a few minutes with myself I decided to call him then and there instead of waiting.

"Hello. Poti." His voice came from the other line.

Well, here goes nothing, "Hey idiot. Where are you?"

"I am out with my friends."

"Oh. Are you busy? Should I call you back later?" I asked preparing to escape from asking him.

"No. Tell poti. Sup?" he asked.

Now, there's no going back. "You know right tomorrow is Hepsi's birthday. So she kind of invited you to come." I said closing my eyes waiting for him to say no or something.

"Um. What would I do coming along with you guys yar?" he asked and I just went calm cause he didn't say he doesn't wanna come. I don't even know why I was expecting to hear that he won't come.

"Um..well..I know. It's just Hepsi asked me to invite you Akki." I said not knowing whether to beg him to come or to force him to come.

"Did you like suggest Hepsi about me coming or something poti?" he asked.

"Oh my god. I swear no. Like I didn't even mention anything. She called me and asked and I just couldn't say no." I said and was shaking my head even if he couldn't see it.

"I know. I was just kidding. It's her birthday, so you wouldn't say anything about bringing your friend. Well, I will tell you in a bit."

"What?" I was so lost in my own thoughts I didn't get what he was telling.

"Answer poti. Ok. Wait I will tell you now. Yeah sure I will come." He said.

I was like what? He is coming. Oh my god.

"Yeah. Nice." I said trying not to let my excitement creep into my voice.

"Yeah poti. So what are you doing?" he asked casually.

"Actually, I came for home tuition classes."

"Oh right. Ok carry on. Bye." He said and hung up.

I turned back smiling and saw the kids staring at me. I just shook my head and got back to teaching them.

On my way back home I called him to tell him to be ready by 9 in the morning.

"Hey Poti. Sup?"
