I couldn't help but smile at my phone screen when it vibrated once again.
Yet another text message from Zander.
ZANDER: 10:32AM: This is a stupid idea 😶.
You'll get over it, I thought to myself.
Izac, Judd, Nathan and Odin had been all too happy to kidnap Keegan and Zander for the day.
Zander was whingeing because for the last three days and four nights, we'd barely been apart.
It was beautiful.
It was magical.
I'd been loving every minute.
But I owed my Brother and Zander their eighteenth Birthday's.
So I'd recruited all the helpers I could possibly manage and I'd kicked Keegan and Zander out for the day.
The Events Room at our Dad's Hotel was my destination, because it was the middle of Winter, so the day would end too quickly for us to enjoy ourselves on the Beach tonight.
Though I didn't doubt that people would end up spilling onto the beach seeing as the Hotel overlooked the massive spread.
"That lover boy again?"
I slipped my phone back into my pocket and shot a glare at Heath.
I'd almost sent Heath and Kade on the 'keep Keegan and Zander away' project too, but considering Amara had to go home tomorrow, ready for another term of school, I didn't have the heart to give the couple any less time with each other than they already had.
So lucky Heath was helping with preparations instead!
"Shut up!"
I told him, folding my arms under my chest.
"I bet you talk with Amara way more!"
They only get some weekends with each other these days and apparently Amara was willing to come spend what she could of the school holidays.
Heath narrowed his blue eyes at me, folding his arms across his chest too.
"Do not!"
I snorted.
They wouldn't even be able to keep their relationship alive if they didn't communicate regularly!
"Bit of help over here?!"
We both spun around at the sound of an all too familiar voice.
"Amara!"
I exclaimed, seeing her teetering on the edge of a step ladder, attempting to reach to hang up some blue and green streamers.
"Fucking idiot!"
Heath swore under his breath.
I pushed his shoulder and ran forward to help my best friend.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
I demanded.
"Setting up!"
Amara exclaimed, staring down at me.
"Like you should be. We're running out of time you know!"
"Can you quit stretching like a gymnast?"
Heath asked, placing his hands on his hips and frowning at Amara.
"You'll fall."
Amara sighed, letting her arms drop to her sides.
Thankfully she finally looked a little more balanced.
"Do you wanna do this then?"
Amara asked Heath, raising her eyebrows and lifting the entwined streamers pointedly.
"I'm positive I can reach."
A sparkle lit within my Brother's blue eyes.
"But I don't hang fancy party shit."
He folded his arms across his chest.
Amara narrowed her eyes at him.
"No!"
Placing a totally take smile into place, I put my hands on my hips and twisted around to look at my five year older Brother.
"You just put on a pair of boarders, sling a carton of some form of alcohol over your shoulder and call that a party!"
Heath smirked back at me.
Grinding my teeth together, I clenched my jaw and my fists and fought the urge to stomp my feet.
"Heath?"
Both Heath and I turned our heads to look at Amara, So was currently standing about a foot taller than Heath because of the step ladder she was still perched on.
"Bit of help please?"
Amara asked, raising her eyebrows.
Maybe his Girlfriend is the only one that can sway this one...
Heath rolled his eyes, a sigh moving his shoulders.
"Fine."
He muttered and walked forward.
"Is it ready to stick on?"
He questioned.
"Yes."
Amara held out the section of streamers she was currently holding, showing the decent blob of blu tac.
Heath turned around, putting his back to Amara and the step ladder.
"Jump on."
He told her, raising his hands into the air to give her something to hold onto.
I couldn't help but smile.
Some things about boys, I truly wouldn't ever understand.
Heath wasn't about to take over and hang the streamers up for us.
But he was willing to give Amara a safer way to go about it.
Well... hopefully safer...
"I don't know..."
Amara looked apprehensive as she eyed my Brother's back.
My poor little Amara.
It was a task and a half to even get her on Phoenix's back.
I was rather surprised she was even on the step ladder, though at least it was smaller than the real ladder.
Sitting on Heath's shoulders probably looked like a daunting rollercoaster ride to my dear little friend.
But, I for one knew that sometimes you had to battle through and do what your subconscious deemed terrifying.
"Come on!"
Heath insisted.
I could see him roll his eyes, but Amara was behind him and couldn't.
"I-I'll be too heavy!"
Amara denied, a pink blush warming her cheeks.
She shot a glance at me and it was then I realised.
Heath doesn't yet know about her fear of heights.
He's a bit over six feet tall, so it wasn't a massive way off the ground, but for somebody who didn't trust the laws of gravity...
Well, since I'd managed to get on Domino, walk, trot and Canter completely sightless, I decided it was time to give my best friend a nudge.
I shot Heath a wink and turned my gaze back up to Amara.
"I've seen him bring four carton's into a party!"
I told her.
"He can deal!"
Light laughter shook Heath's shoulders.
Amara's blush flared and she dropped her gaze.
To Heath's wide shoulder's.
"Don't ya trust me?"
Heath asked, turning his head to look over his shoulder at her.
"I promise I won't drop ya!"
His blue eyes were now dancing.
You don't mock somebody who's trying to face their fear Heath!
I mentally scolded.
But if he didn't know Amara had a fear, then he wouldn't know he was being mean.
"Take these for a minute?"
Amara asked me, holding the streamer's out, her voice little more than a whisper.
She was going to give it a go!
Grinning, I slipped forward to take the streamer's from her.
Hands free, Amara reached forward to slip her hands into Heath's awaiting ones.
I could just barely catch the tremble in her knee's as she paused at the edge of the step ladder.
"Do I need to come back more?"
Heath asked.
I almost snapped at him not to push her, but bit my tongue.
This was for them to work out.
Who knew if they were having some other kind of issue in their relationship and this would be the subconscious way to work it out?
Amara was going to have to put great trust into Heath.
And Heath was going to have to prove he could look after her.
"Yes."
Amara whispered.
I just barely heard the one word.
Heath checked over his shoulder and backed up another small step.
He was now just about standing directly against the step ladder.
"Are you sure about this?"
Amara questioned, her voice filled with her nerves.
"You weigh like forty five kilos."
Heath rolled his eyes even though Amara wasn't able to see the gesture.
"I'm positive I won't drop you."
Amara bit into her lower lip and an expression of complete concentration took over her face.
Inch by inch, she slowly lifted her left leg and finally managed to get her calf and then her knee over Heath's shoulder.
Heath's arms remained steady as he held her hands, helping her to balance once her weight shifted and she managed to slide her right leg over his right shoulder.
Amara let out a squeak of surprise, which I was positive was also a mixture of fright as she teetered a bit upon trying to find her position.
"You're okay!"
Laughter laced Heath's voice.
"Don't laugh!"
Amara yelped, her eyes widening.
"I'll fall!"
"You won't."
Heath denied.
"Just sit straight."
I coached her.
"And hook your calves around his ribs. You'll be balanced, I promise."
"Listen to her."
Heath agreed.
"How do you know this?"
Amara asked me, shooting a glance my way.
"You ride Horses, not peoples' shoulders."
She muttered.
"Balance is balance."
I explained.
"And I've ridden many a set of shoulders!"
I grinned.
"I was always one of the smallest, so I was always made to go on the shoulders!"
"For what?!"
Amara asked, looking bewildered.
"The game of who can push the other one off the shoulders of course."
Heath explained.
Amara's eyes widened significantly and she shot a scared look towards the ground.
"Are you kidding me?!"
She yelped.
"In the water of course!"
I told her, rolling my eyes.
Nobody would push anybody off onto the ground.
"Oh!"
Amara's cheeks flushed scarlet.
"Now hurry up and hang those streamer's!"
I clapped my hands.
Time was getting away from us.
We still had to finish the decorating and then we had to get ready!
But I need a photo of Heath and Amara before Amara gets off his shoulders...
I grabbed my phone out of my pocket, ready to activate the camera.
Another message was waiting for me, from Zander.
ZANDER: 11:06AM: 😥.
I rolled my eyes at my phone screen.
He's such a baby, I swear...
I typed back, while Amara tested her confidence and trusted Heath to hold onto her thighs while she stretched her arms up to hang the streamer's.
ME: 11:16AM: I love you 😍😘💙 and have FUN 😘.
