"So how is she?" My mom asked as I packed a few files and work into a bag
"She's not been great I've not seen her smile in two days...to be honest I'm a little worried" I replied closing the bag up and growing it over my shoulder
"When do you guys leave?" She asked as she opened the door for me to go
"In about an hour but I'll call you when we get to Nebraska! I promise!" I said leaning in for a hug before leaving.

I walked down the hall and I almost got the the main hall when Kara stopped me.
"Hey Alex when will you be back?" She asked
"I really don't know whenever Maggie does really but I'll miss Christmas but I'll try to be here for new years Ok?" I said just thinking about missing Christmas which was only a few days away!
"Ok I thought that so I brought these" she said pull8ng put two little boxes wrapped in reindeer paper "Your presents! One for Maggie and the other for you hopefully it puts a smile on both of your faces" she said before hugging me and letting me go.
As I left her my phone made a noise signalling that Maggie had text me.

"I'm outside ready to go!xxx"

When I got outside there she was so I jumped in and threw my stuff in the back seat.
"You ready?" I asked as she began driving
"Not really but I do have something to tell You! My grandmother doesn't know I'm gay! She knows I'm marrying just she thinks it's a guy!" She replied softly worrying about a reaction that she should know she'd never get
"Oh really what's the guys name...is he your side piece" I joked back making her smile a little
"His name is George Alexander Roberts the 6th and he's a typical gentleman...no I'm being serious honey are you ok with keeping it hidden"
"Yea of course she's not gonna be with us twenty four seven so I think we're ok...does she spend Christmas with your family?" I asked thinking about what I'd do Christmas morning and how we spend it.
"I don't plan on being there long...I'm hoping to be home Christmas eve." She replied making me relieved.

We had been driving at least 6 hours already when we stopped just outside Las Vegas for a bite to eat...that bite to eat was of course take away burgers to eat in the car.
As we were eating I got a text through from Kara.

"Did you open them yet? Xx"

I knew exactly what she was talking about as I had a few texts on the way here.
"Hey babe Kara wants us to open our gifts now." I said as she stuffed her face with burger which to be honest was super cute.
"Ok sure if that's what she wants" she replied wiping the sauce from her face.

I picked up the letter she handed me along with the two boxes and gave Maggie hers...I began to read out the letter as she inspected the box.

"As I am writing this I am lying on my couch watching Mon-el cook me dinner...why I am writing the letter I have no clue but if it wasn't for The Barenaked Ladies playing on Mon-el's phone I wouldn't have.
The present I bought you this year is a sort of Krypton tradition. On Krypton when you get engaged you get two ring instead of one.
The standard engagement ring that symbolises the present and the time you've spent up until now and up until you marry.
Then you have the wedding rings...I know it sounds weird that I've bought your rings but I remember you guys saying that you liked them in a store window.
Back on Krypton the ring symbolised the time after you say I do and that it's with you through good and bad times. It is kept around your neck up until the wedding and is taken off before the ceremony and placed normally on the finger....

We ripped them open and saw two beautiful gold rings with a chain wrapped around them in the form of a necklace.
"These are gorgeous I love it...wait what's that?" Maggie asked looking at the inside of the ring at an engraved message I had also.

"Falling For The First Time" (our favourite song and the first one we danced to)

24/01/18 (the date of our wedding)

"Put it on me?"I asked thinking it would be pretty cute and all she did was give me the biggest smile as she took mine off me and put it around my neck and I did the same with hers before sealing the new engagement with a kiss.
We're not the most picture people but for Kara's sake I pulled out my phone and took a selfie of me and Maggie holding up our necklaces and It finally hit me how lucky I am to have the woman in the picture in my life and not have to worry about anything because she's there...my Maggie Sawyer (soon to be Danvers)
