Standing looking at myself in the mirror in my uniform made me more nervous than I had been since my wedding. I stood thinking about how much I knew I deserve this and how much I'm proud of myself and the people who got me here! Including Alex...

When I arrived at the event I stood looking out on the water and my mind wandered up until I felt the chiefs hand on my shoulder.
"Maggie! I'm so proud of you and that you'll be my second in command!" He smiled shanking my hand before hugging me
"Thank you chief and I'm more than ready to jump straight in" I replied placing my hand on his arm
"Don't! I heard what happened and for yours and Alex's sanity take your time!" He smiled again but with more sympathy this time.
Before I could say anything he was called off to start the presentations.
I had to wait an hour and a half for my turn as there were a few graduates before me and a few honourable mentions after them.

"Now the last but definitely not least a promotion I had been hoping would happen since I first met this fine detective. Maggots Sawyer...sorry Danvers her wife would kill me if she heard! Detective Maggie Danvers is a fine officer who has solved many a case and has put up with so much in her career and even had steps in my boots and survived so I couldn't think of anyone better to lead the homicide department as Lieutenant than this amazing woman! So ladies and gentlemen of the NCPD and citizens of National City please welcome your new Lieutenant! Please welcome Lieutenant Maggie Danvers!" He said as I stood up following applause from everyone and a few cheers.
When I got up onto stage the Chief pinned my new pin to my uniform and handed me my new badge to which I replaced the old one. I looked about and saw a few familiar faces including Alex's Parents and her friends, my mom, members of the DEO and Alex? When I saw her I saw how proud she looked smiling from ear to ear as she winked.

"Thank you very much Chief and thank you to all you at the department who has helped me along the way. I never thought this day would arrive even this morning I couldn't! Even standing in front of the mirror looking myself in the uniform again made me so so nervous and the only other time was at my wedding and I don't know why because if you'd seen my wife you would have asked why I was! But she's the reason I'm here...My wife Alex has been the biggest support in my life since I met her and she's always been the rock when I'd come home ranting about my day and even when I'd come home with paper work she'd be the one there to rub my shoulders. Even recently with life hitting us both like Pete in the gym she's still there to support my decisions and to make me go further in my career and she even escaped the hospital this morning without me knowing just to watch me get promoted and I couldn't love her anymore. So once more thank you to everyone and thank you to you Alex I love you and I know that our little girl is proud of her two mommy's and that she should know that even though we never met her...we love her with all our hearts!" I said trying to fight back my tears watching Alex with tears in her eyes with her arm around Kara.
I sat back down and watched the rest of the presentation and once it was over I went in search of Alex and when I found her she ran into my hug.
"I'm so so so proud of you love!!" She said kissing me on the forehead over and over
"What did I tell you" I laughed giving her a proper kiss making her smile
"I was discharged this morning just after you left so I wanted to surprise you and your speech was amazing!" She smiled kissing me again
"Thank you Alex I wanted to show how much I love you and how much I'm proud that you've supported me for this long" I replied hugging her again before she started to tug at parts of my uniform.
"You look really hot with that new badge by the way and I think Lieutenant and Danvers really go together!" She laughed into my neck as we stayed hugging.
"So what are you doing tonight?" I asked making her show a serious face
"That's one of the reasons why I'm here I'm going away!" She replied
"Away? What do you mean away?"
"I'm having to go to England for work I'm going to go work for the secret service for a few months with a two week break in between so I'll be back!" She smiled and I couldn't argue as it was what she loved and she needs a break
"Ok! When do you leave?" I asked as we began walking to the car
"Now I came to say goodbye!" She replied making me feel a little abandoned
"Oh ok well I love you and stay safe cause I'm going to need you home!" I said pulling her into a kiss before she got into her car to join Kara and drove off...
