She was late. Why was late? Who made her late? These plus a 100 thoughts ran through my mind as it reached her curfew.
"Miki... You better answer." I began to call her.
It was turned off.
This made me worry. Could that guy be trying to kidnap her right now? How come I hadn't thought if this? Miki has a weirdo going after her and it was already past dinner.
Anxiety rushed through me as I began to panic. This was scary. But just before I could run to go look for her she stepped in.
"I'm home!" She took off her shoes and entered the room.
In the state of adrenile I shook her by the shoulders and began to yell at her in his knows what language. But after I was done I apoligized.
"Okay then..." She said and went to the kitchen. "Im making us some Miso Soup, and sorry for not starting sooner."
I walked over. "... don't apologize. I overreacted a little."
"'A little'?... sure." Miki laughed and began.
---
We sat in silence as we ate. Miki was quiet... too quiet. She's usually be spilling her guts put about the day.
"Brother, I wanna know what your job is?" She looked at pepper. "No lies please."
I stopped mid bite. This was a surprise. Unexpected.
"What do you mean? You don't seem like the type to ask me about work."
"Maybe because I'm always so silly but I have my serious side."
"Well so does your brother." I rested my arms on the table. "Now why ask all of a sudden?"
"It's something that's been at the back of my mind for a while now. So I thought that I'd finally ask you." Miki rested her elbows and rested her chin on her palm.
... should I be honest? Or should I make something up? I gulped. She's on to me at last.
"Truly a tricky question to answer. I don't think you'd like to hear the sick words." I decided to ouch her away from the question. "You're too innocent."
Miki stiffened her back. The air was tense. Is it bad that I've always wanted to experience this kind of tension... not in that perv way but, in a different way.
"You're right on point with that statement. But your job couldn't be so bad that just saying it would make me sick."
I tilted my head. "Maybe not the word. But just imagining me doing that." I gave her a stare that could send chills through anyone. "That's why I'd prefer not to say anything about 'work'. Understood?"
She looked at her food. "Understood my ass..." she flopped back.
"Watch that mouth of yours. You're not supposed to be saying such."
She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Oh whatever." Miki left her seat. "I'm leaving if I'm not getting an answer to a simple question."
She slammed the door behind her, leaving me in a state of worry, anger, and frustration.
Worried because she had never acted this sassy. Towards me especially.
Angry because she had got me all ticked due to her fowl language.
And frustrated because she wasn't understanding to keep her questions about work to herself.
... what a sassy child.
---
It was 6 am, she wasn't in her room. Immediately I began to panic. Where did she go?
I paced around the house with not one room left unchecked. I ended up finding a text from her on my phone that she left early.
Why is she mad at me? I'm the one that should be mad.
I sighed in relief and went to go make myself a sandwich. I decided that I'd try to catch her of she was trying to avoid me.
---
"Hey-Nagisa! Where are you going? We gotta clean the classroom!" Kaede chased after me, she grabbed me by my hand. "Where are you going?"
I stopped and smiled. "Ah, right, I gotta do some stuff. Please tell Ms. Yukimura that I had some family business to take care of."
"..." she paused. "Why are you lying?"
I stared at her. "Lying? I'm not-for-profit just stretching the truth. I gotta corner Miki since she's been avoiding me."
She let go of me. "Oh. I was kinda hoping to tell you something after we finished, but okay."
"Okay, make sure to tell Ms. Yukimura. And you can tell me whatever tomorrow."
"... okay."
---
I ran all the way and sat by the entrance of the yard. There I waited for a little.
I was a little anxious. Maybe I should leave her be and let he figure out that what she asked me was for another day.
...
Wait... what was Kaede gonna tell me.
She didn't look like anything was bothering her for all of the day, until she stopped me at least. Kaede seemed... anxious.
"Hey." I heard a familiar voice. Miki. "What are you doing?"
I pushed away the thought of Kaede and walked towards Miki.
"Nothing, I was gonna try to see if I could get you to stop avoiding me." I smiled. "You don't seem that mad right now though."
"No, I'm mad. Mad that you won't tell me what you do for a living. But that's for when we get home."
---
"I'm avoid this but I don't think you'll be leaving me be any time soon." I too a seat on the couch. "I'm actually considering telling you about it."
"Tell meeeeee." Miki flopped on the other end.
I looked away. "Promise not to let this slip out to ANYONE." I paused. "I'm..."
---
Will he lie to her? Will he actually tell her? I don't even know. Tell me what you think I should write.
