Josephine's POV

{Job Interview}

_______________

I watch until I can't see the car anymore before closing the garage doors and heading towards Amy's room to feed her. I fill her food bowl and clean her water. I should also probably clean her cage sometime later.

Ashton is supposed to be coming over right now. Rhazien gave me a temporary code a couple of weeks ago when I was supposed to go grocery shopping and I told him that there's no way I can make the three second time period for the gate. The code he gave me opens a small door-sized section to the side of the gate. There's a camera in that area so he can see who goes in and out and it gets activated whenever someone puts the code in. I swear that man takes security around here a little bit too seriously.

I decide to sit in the living room and wait it out since I don't know how far away Ashton lives from here. There's not really a 'real' address to this place, so I just kind of gave him directions on how to get here. I asked Rhazien how he gets his mail if he doesn't have an address and he told me that it's complicated. Complicated my butt.

My phone rings and I look to see a message from Ashton telling me that he's in front of the gate. Using the app on my phone that Rhazien told me to download that day I went shopping, I typed in the code. I'm not connected to the camera so I can't see if it worked or not but Ashton texts me a few seconds later telling me that he's inside.

It's about ten minutes later when I hear the doorbell ring. I go towards the front door and open it, smiling widely at seeing one of my close friends. "Ashton!"

He smiles back and steps inside. "Glad to see that you're still as peppy."

"Where'd you go after graduation?" I ask, closing the door after him. "You kind of just...disappeared."

He shrugs, taking a seat on the couch while looking around the room. "Didn't want to stay behind. I spent less than a week in that school so there wasn't anyone there I wanted to say goodbye to, expect you of course. You were gone before I could find you."

"Oh," I say, slowly nodding. "Sorry. I was probably with Tracey and Bella."

He lowly whistles while looking around the room. "Your boyfriend's got a lot of money," he says, leaning back against the couch.

"Just don't mention it," I tell him, making him look back at me. "He doesn't really like to be considered rich even though he is."

"You said he was a businessman, right?" he questions. I nod and Ashton continues to look around with mild amusement in his face. I wonder what he finds funny about Rhazien being an office guy. "I'm more of a hands-on type of guy myself. I prefer to work with my hands."

"Like a carpenter?" I ask. That reminds me, I really don't know what Ashton does for a living. He didn't really talk about what he was going to do after high school. Whenever I would ask, he would blow it off or say something really vague.

"I was thinking more like a butcher," he says, and my eyes widen. Ashton and knives? Big knives? I can't even conjure up that image in my head. "What?"

"I just can't imagine you with knives," I tell him, laughing a little.

He chuckles. "You'd be surprised. Anyways, how have you been? How's the situation with your boyfriend?"

At the mention of Rhazien I clear my throat and sit up straighter. "Honestly... I don't know."

Ashton frowns. "What do you mean? You didn't sound like you were angry at him when you mentioned him earlier."
