Rhazien's POV
{How Do You Know You Love Her}

As soon as the door opens, I don't even think twice and grab Josephine's arm before running away from the men. I can feel some resistance, which is probably because it hasn't registered in her mind that it's me, and I tug her harder not really caring if I pull her arm off or not. I can handle a broken arm but I can't handle any of those fuckers getting to her.
"Rhazien, what's going-"
"Shut up, will you?" I snap, going towards an alley that's hidden away from the sun. I take a quick look around and see if there's any dark area that can easily hide both of us. "Stop talking and let me think."
Doesn't this dumbass know that they can hear her? Is she trying to get us killed? She's lucky that I was able to track her phone and I was already on the way here before she even told me where she was.
"You can think for as long as you want but you better get comfortable talking because you have a lot of explaining to do!" she says but I don't really pay attention to her. One of them starts going in this direction and without thinking I grab Josephine and pull her into the wall, using my ability to hide us both from sight. I also make sure to keep a hand tightly on her mouth since she doesn't seem to understand that she needs to stay quiet.
All four of them start walking down the alley and I pull Josephine tighter against me since she's starting to struggle. If she steps out of the shadows and into the light then it's over. The man whose brother I killed starts looking in the shadows, daring me to come out but I know he won't be able to see me. "Come out, you little hell child," he threatens, my hands falling on the gun in his hand. What kind of dumbass just walks around with their gun out? He's just begging me to take it and shoot him on the stop.
And I'd do it too if it weren't for the person in front of me.
"The shadows can't hide you forever, demon," he continues, and I close my eyes when I feel Josephine stiffen in my arms. Fuck.
The men continue looking in the dumbest places in the alley before walking away. I feel Josephine start to struggle so I pull her tighter against me because I can still see them. They're waiting for us to step out.
Using my senses, I can tell that they're waiting around and I nearly sigh in relief when I hear Dario and Ashton's voice. I don't bother listening in to what they're saying and wait until they all leave. Only when I'm sure that they completely left the area do I loosen my hold on Josephine enough that she pulls away from me and turns around.
I was prepared to see anger. I was prepared to see her pissed off and start to yell at me. I can take that. I've had her angry at me before and I was ready to deal with her attitude.
But she's looking at me with an emotion that I've never seen her look at me before with: Fear. It's an emotion that I thrive on seeing from other people. But seeing it on her makes my stomach drop.
I don't show it though. I steel my face into a blank expression and wait for her to talk first. It feels like forever of just watching her gaze shift from me, to the floor, to the end of the alley, and back again before she finally breaks the silence. It's the longest she's ever gone without talking when she was conscious.
"You don't like reading fiction books," she starts, not looking me in the eye.
I nod even though I have no idea where she's going with this. "I don't."
"None of those books I read were fiction then, were they?" she asks, even though she probably already knows she's right.
I sigh and nod again, confirming her words. "Every book I have is non fiction."
