"-and with so, may we have an astonishing year full of learning and advances for the future. Welcome first years and our returning students. I know you are all longing to talk to your friends, so the feast may begin." Professor McGonagall ends her speech. I turn to Scorpius.
"I wouldn't say that I'm 'Longing' to talk to you, but thank you for saving my spot in my book. I would've died if I had to reread it." I dramatically say.
"No problem Little Red. If I didn't you probably would've killed me or Al so I was doing us all a favor." Scorpius says, nudging my shoulder.
"'Little Red'? Seriously? Why little? I happen to be average height you know. I am not 'little'. And if I was, it is not nice to comment on height." I question, a smirk on my face.
"Well you see Little Red-" I slap him for that but he ignores it. "You are remarkably shorter than I am so therefor you are little compared to me." Scorpius smugly replies.
"Well how is it my fault that you are tree sized? I mean 6'5". Too tall." I retort. As Scorpius is about to continue our bickering, Albus interrupts.
"Before you respond dear friend I suggest you wait til' you get to the common room, most of this schools female population is staring at you two. You're feeding the Scorose fire. They'll ship you guys more. Just chill out for a few. Make a casual conversation but don't be cute." Al takes a sip of his drink. I'm about to retaliate when Travis sits in front of me.
"Fancy meeting you here." He happily commences.
"Yeah. It's not like I eat here normally or anything." I mock with a smile on my face. I can feel Scorpius stiffen next to me, like he is a soldier drawn to attention.
"Didn't know you were a Gryffindor."
"Yeah well my uniform is for the Gryffindor house." I roll my eyes. Travis laughs.
"I guess I'm oblivious then. I just wanted to say hello. And goodbye." Travis gets up to leave.
"Goodbye then." I shout after him while shaking my head.
Scorpius mutters to himself, "I don't like him."
"And why is that?" I ask, grabbing an apple.
"I just have a bad feeling about him." He answers, then changes the subject to, "Can you believe we aren't prefects Red? We would be great prefects." I'm suspicious but let it go.
"Are you joking? Professor McGonagall would have to be mental to make us prefects. Especially with my 'get back at anyone who offends me personality'. Remember when I cast that spell on the seventh year last year to make his hair purple for a week for making fun of you? And after our sorting when I stood on a table and yelled at everyone for muttering that your sorting was wrong? And apparently you've done some things too. Like when Thomas asked me out you hexed him so bad he had to stay in the infirmary over night. I still don't understand how you got away with detention and weren't suspended." As I'm about to keep reminding Scorpius of why we weren't prefects, Al buts in.
"Oh and when you two were mad at each other and started a food fight. It only lasted that long because McGonagall got hit and she doesn't back down from a fight. That was a fun time, well at least for me because I'm sure those howlers were fun." And with that he turns around again and starts talking to the person to the left of him.
"Oh are we telling our favorite Scorose stories?" My best friend Alice asks. "Because I have a few. Like when you guys fell asleep in the common room together and James yelled, 'My eyes! My perfect eyes! I will never be able to see again!' He woke up the whole school. And then Scorpius here got a 'big brother lecture' from James after breakfast. That was the highlight of my year." Alice sighs and I roll my eyes.
"You make it sound like we're a couple Alice." Alice just raises an eyebrow at me like she knows something I don't.
"Please, you're practically married." I shake my head at her and she smiles innocently at me. I roll my eyes. Scorpius clears his throat.
"I'm glad to see you taking so much interest in us Alice, but doesn't everyone have a life? You know, that's not ours." Alice raises her hands in mock surrender while laughing. She shakes her head at us.
"Anyway, how was your summer?" Alice asks, grabbing her goblet.
"It was good... except for my three best friends ignoring me!" I exclaim. They look the other way and try to look innocent. Even Al heard me and looked away. I whack them to get their attention.
"Ouch. That hurt Pricker." Scorpius mocks.
"Yeah Rose. Not fair." Alice adds. I shrug and take a sip of my water.
"Well I still don't know why I spent my summer alone."
"I was working. I'm saving up for something that I want to buy myself. And as much as I enjoy reading, working in a book store is not fun." Scorpius justifies. "And before you ask, no I will not tell you yet because it is a surprise and no you cannot get it out of Al because he does not know either." He says, reading my mind.
"And I was on vacation with my dad. We went all over so he could research plants. Although the sight-seeing and learning about the cultures was fun, I did not enjoy the plant part. I'll admit they're pretty but I can only take so much herbology at one time." Alice dramatically sighs.
"Still sounds better than my summer. We visited my mom's parents and my dad's. And then we stayed home the rest of the summer. The only good thing was I read twenty-four-seven. I finished almost all of the books in my mom's study. It was great." I exaggerate the word great.
"I'm sorry Rosie but I think you'll like what I'm going to buy." Scorpius smiles. "It will be perfect." He laughs.
Laughing I mumble, "This will be great. Just great."
