Chapter 11: Ma-Lou-Lou
It's Saturday, the day I have been dreading. Just like every other anniversary, I woke up in a depressed state. With a huff, I got out of bed and took a shower.
I changed into a beige oversized sweater, red tights, Brown combat boots and added a cheetah print infinity scarf. My hair was pulled into a messy bun.
I grabbed my keys and walked downstairs. Mom wasn't in the kitchen, and breakfast wasn't made. It's like this every year, too. I grabbed a granola bar and left.
I went to the flower store and bought pink roses, they were Maleigha's favorite. Afterwards I went to visit her gravestone. Once I saw the white marble, my eyes teared up. I blinked the tears away. I don't want to cry.
I placed the roses on the ground in front of her gravestone, and sat down. "Hey Ma-Lou-Lou." I said. "I really do miss you."
I wiped the single tear off of my cheek. "A lot has happened this year. Scott cheated on me. We broke up. There's this guy... " I found myself smiling just at talking about him.
"His name is Brendan. I used to be terrified of him, but underneath his beastly attitude, is a nice guy. He's.... he's the Beast in Beauty in the Beast."
"I think I like him. I don't want to though. He's a player, and he might hurt me like Scott did." I laughed. "I'm talking as if he likes me. I'm going home, to see how mom and dad are taking today. I love you Ma-Lou-Lou, bye."
I stood up and dusted myself off. I ran my hand over the smooth marble before walking back to my car.
When I got home, Dad's car was gone, and mom was sitting on the porch. She was still in her pyjamas and robe. On her feet were her white house shoes.
"How was it?" She asked.
"It was good." I said.
She forced a smile, then continued to drink her coffee. I walked inside and to my room. I grabbed Prickle and took him outside. He rolled around in the grass before hitting Benji's leg.
I heard the back door slide open. Carly walked towards me. She was sad, I could tell. She was close to Maleigha. I stood up and we embraced each other in a hug.
"How are you doing?" She asked.
"I could do better, but I'm pretty good. I got her flowers earlier." I answered.
She let me go. "Could we go somewhere? Like, the mall two towns over?"
I nodded and picked Pricklepants up.

Shopping has Maleigha off of my mind. So far we've bought five bags of clothes. "I'm hungry! Hurry up Carls!" I whined. Carly was in a shoe store, looking for new combat boots. She picked up a pair of brown ones, with white lace on the sides.
"I like these." She smiled. We walked to the cashier and bought the boots. Thank goodness.
We went to the food court and bought subway sandwiches. We sat at an empty table. "I have to tell you something, but you can't freak out, okay?" I told her.
"I won't. Tell me, I smell gossip." She smiled.
"That means no screaming, throwing things, stomping, or hitting me, okay?"
"Wait, did you and Scott get back together because if so, Ill freak." She said.
"No! Oh, no! Definitely not!" I yelled.
"Okay, good. Now get on with it! I want to know!" She sighed.
"I, I um kissed Brendan." I said.
Her jaw dropped, and her black eyes grew the size of watermelons. "When? Is he a good kisser? Would you do it again? Was there tongue involved? You had clothes on right? Please tell me you had clothes on!" She yelled.
I covered her mouth with my hand. "I told you not to freak out!" I sighed. She pulled my hand away.
"Okay, answer my questions."
"Yesterday, yes, and I would do it again. It was a kiss, not a make out session! I was fully clothed, he was too. Stop jumping to conclusions!"
She nodded. "So, do you like him?"
I sighed. "I don't want to."
~~~
Carly and I came back around seven. I was so worn out that when I got home I went to sleep. I didn't eat, or talk to my parents.
