Chapter 15: Why am I constantly threatened with shovels?
"Ashi hurry up! We'll be late!" My mom rushed me.
"Hold on mom! I can't find my shoes!" I called from my room. I looked in my closet, under my bed, and under my desk. My shoes were no where in sight.
"Which ones?" Dad asked.
"My light pink keds." I told him.
"Those are at the back door. Now hurry Grand will be worried if we don't show up at the right time." He said.
I ran past him, downstairs, and to the back door. I picked them up and ran out the front door. I hopped into the backseat and buckled myself in. After all that rushing I proceeded to put my shoes on.
I sat in the car for five minutes before my parents exited the house. "Hurry Ashi we'll be late!" I mocked my mother. She turned and hit my knee.
"Do not mock me child. I am your mother and everything I do is perfect." She joked. Dad and I left as she pulled away from out house. I put my headphones in and laid my pillow against the window. I have a three hour drive ahead of me.

"Oh Ashi! You've grown so much! How old are you now? 30?" My grandma, Grand, asked.
"I'm sixteen Grand!" I smiled embracing her hug.
"Where's Scott? Why didn't he come?" She asked.
I smile fell and I let my grandma go. She noticed the sudden change in my mood and sat next to me. "Ash what's wrong?"
"Mom, Scott and Ashi broke up." Mom answered for me.
"Why I ought to find a pole and beat the living hell out of that boy for hurting my beautiful granddaughter! Ill teach him a lesson! Let me at him!" She said waving her fists around in the air.
I smiled and laughed a little. "It's okay Grand. I have a new boyfriend and he's very sweet."
"Is he here? Why can't I meet him?" She asked.
"You will meet him next month when you visit for Christmas." I told her.
"I can't wait that long! Come on let's get out of this town and head to his house! I can make cookies!" She said attempting to stand up.
"Mom sit down. In a few weeks you'll meet Brendan. Be patient and mind yourself." Mom scolded.
"Oh don't a scold me daughter! Ill start singing again." Grand warned.
"No need Grand. You can make cookies for me and Ill Facetime Brendan." I said to shut her up.
"Facetime? What is this Facetime you speak of?" She queried.
"It's when you call someone and you can see them through the phone." I told her.
"This is absolutely insane. You have the brain of a monkey!"
I laughed and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I called Brendan as Grand pulled the ingredients out to make her infamous homemade red velvet cookies.
"It's been a day and you're already calling?" Brendan asked when he answered.
"Grand doesn't have the patience to wait a month to meet you." I told him.
"Really? Let me meet this lovely lady." He said with a wink.
I walked over to Grand and showed her the phone. "Grand this is Brendan."
Her eyes widened and her mouth opened, forming an oval. "Oh Ashleigh this is a very beautiful boy! Look at that hair, and those eyes! Oh how I wish I could pinch his little cheeks! Listen here pretty boy, you hurt my granddaughter I will beat your head in with a shovel and then bury you with it."
"Grand!" I exclaimed.
"Why am I always threatened with shovels?" Brendan asked.
I laughed remembering when that old lady at the store threatened him. "I'm making cookies. Do you want a cookie?" Grand asked.
"No thank you." Brendan said.
"Grand Ill be back." I said excusing myself and walking outside. I sat in the grass and looked around. This backyard hold many memories. My first kiss in the tree house. I remember jumping the fence while running away from a huge dog, and having a bonfire. All with Scott. I looked back at Brendan. "I think she likes you."
"Who doesn't?" He arrogantly asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Scott."
"Well no one likes him. When do you come back?" He asked.
"Wednesday."
"That's five days without holding you! I miss you already!" He pouted.
"I miss you too. My dad believes it's unhealthy for us to see each other everyday. He says we're to attached and can't cope without each other."
"I respect your dad, but I don't agree with him. I mean, we're coping right now." He said.
"It's been a day. Not even a full day."
"So? Only four more days then you'll be back."
"I know. I know what he means though. Without being with you I think a lot. When I think my mind thinks of Scott. I'm in a house that Scott and I spent large amounts of time together. This house hold so many memories Brendan. Some of my favorite memories that mean absolutely nothing anymore." I ranted. I wiped my hand across my face wiping my own years away.
"Please don't cry. I'm not there to hold you, wipe away your tears and tell you that you're so much better and kiss you." Brendan said.
"This is what my dad doesn't like. I'm emotionally broken and I expect you to be there for me. To tell me it's okay because I'm with you but we won't always be in arms reach."
"Ashi I'd fly around the entire world for you if it made you happy. It's not because you rely on me but because I think know I can fix you but... you have to heal yourself sometimes."
I thought about what he said. "Brendan has your heart been broken?" I asked.
He nodded. "It was last year actually. By Hailey Anderson."
I remembered her. She was gorgeous. Shoulder length curly red hair and green eyes. She was a little bit shorter than Brendan and a lot taller than me. Her and Brendan had so much in common. Grand called me inside, the cookies were finished.
"I have to go." I said before hanging up.
