Chapter 12: I will punch you in the throat
I didn't talk to anyone all day Sunday. On Monday, I avoided Brendan. My recent realization about my crush on Brendan was stressful.
I know, it's just a crush, but that's how all relationships start right? I don't want to get hurt again. Brendan, being the school heartthrob and bad boy, would definitely hurt me.
He sees me as vulnerable already. Scott is probably right, Brendan is only around for one thing. He'd use me, then dump me like a bag of trash. I rubbed my eyes and got out of bed.
I took a shower, and brushed my teeth. I changed into a red skirt, and a black and white striped shirt, with black vans. I French braided my hair, and grabbed my keys.
~~~
"He knows you're avoiding him." Carly told me.
I sighed and shut my locker. "Okay? Maybe he'll leave me alone." I said.
She frowned, "I don't think so, I um I have to go. Ill see you around." Before she left, she looked down the emptying hallway. Brendan was walking towards me.
I turned to run away but Brendan stopped me. He had his hand on my elbow. "Ashi, why are you avoiding me?" He asked.
"Wh- What do you mean?" I asked.
"You are avoiding me. You haven't talked to me since our kiss on Friday." He said.
The halls were completely empty now. The bell was going to ring any second. "Look, how about we talk about this later the bell-" I was interrupted by bell.
"You're already late. Might as well not show up." He said.
"Actually, better late then never. You know?" I said.
Brendan suddenly looked serious. "Scott's coming this way." He told me.
I internally groaned. "Make this look good Brendan." I said before wrapping my arms around his shoulders.
Brendan looked surprised, but still put his hands on my hips. He closed the gap between us. I heard footsteps stop in front of us, then Brendan pulled away.
"Really guys? Is the janitors closet in use?" Scott asked.
"No, I just assumed that you were already occupying it." I retorted, pulling my hands off of Brendan shoulders. He quickly entwined our fingers.
"Fiona isn't here today. Neither is Karen." He shrugged.
"Alison is." I told him.
"Yeah, she's annoying. How was Saturday? Did you spend it with Brendan?" He asked.
"No, she was with her family." Brendan said.
Scott smiled, "So he knows about Maleigha. Did Pearl and Kyle tell him too?"
"No, she told me. Friday night." Brendan told him.
Scott was about to say something until I interrupted him. "Could you leave? You kind of interrupted us." I said before looking back up to Brendan.
"You've turned into a whore Ashleigh." Scott said.
I laughed, though it was a bitter laugh. "Funny you say that Scott. How many girls have you had a one night stand with?" I asked.
He didn't say anything. He walked down the hall. I took a step away from Brendan and took a deep breath. "Ashi are you-"
"Brendan, I'll talk to you at lunch." I walked towards my class.
~~~
I was so stressed by the time lunch had arrived. I got yelled at for the first time by my science teacher for being fifteen minutes late, it was also in front of my classmates. During second period, Scott sat next to me. During third, we started on something new, but I didn't understand it. In fourth period, Spencer wasn't in class, so Scott sat next to me.
I sat at our table, not bothering to buy my food. I placed my elbows on the table, I know, I have terrible manners, and rested my head on my hands.
"Ashi, are you not eating?" Jordan asked. I grunted in response. "Are you okay?" He asked. I sighed.
"Ashleigh Maree, if you don't say an actual answer, I will punch you in the throat." Carly threatened. I decided against answering her.
"Guys, maybe she's sick. Someone feel her head." Tyler said.
"Okay." Todd said.
I leaned away from the direction his voice was and groaned. Suddenly, my friends quit talking. I felt someone sit next to me. I looked up to see Scott.
I grunted and got up. "Ill talk to you guys later. I'm going home. Get my work for me please." I said. I walked out of the cafeteria and into the hall. Just before I got to my locker, I saw Brendan and some girl down the hall.
They were kissing. When they pulled apart, none other than the whore Alison looked at me. Brendan turned and saw me. My eyes started to tear up. "Ashi I-" I didn't wait for him to finish.
I ran out of the school doors, and jumped into my car. I quickly drove home and ran into my room. I couldn't keep my tears back, so I let out a quiet sob. I heard the ragged breathing of Benji, then felt something hit my bed, with a following thud.
I lifted Benji off of the floor, and sat him next to me. He laid his head on my arm, and leaned against me. My door opened, and Brendan came in. Benji growled, as if he knew Brendan was the reason for my mood.
"Ashi, I had no clue she was going to kiss me. I promise, I didn't intend on kissing her." He said.
"But you kissed her back Brendan! I saw you!" I said, wiping my face.
"I don't understand why that makes you mad. You won't talk to me and you kissed me to get back at Scott! We aren't dating anyway. I can kiss whoever the Hell I want to kiss." He said, becoming angrier with each word.
My eyes teared up again. Benji was still growling. We aren't dating. We aren't dating. I can kiss whoever I want. Friday night flashed through my mind. I can kiss whoever I want.
"You're right. We aren't dating, but that doesn't stop me from liking you." I said coldly.
