Chapter 10: Gross, I have Ashi germs
I woke up around 3 A.M. throwing up, so I ran to the bathroom. I couldn't move without throwing up again, so I fell asleep on the cold, hard tiled floor of the bathroom.
I woke up again when my Dad had discovered me in the floor, and he had carried me back to my room. My mom had the duvet pulled back, while dad laid me on the bed. They both pulled the blanket up.
"There is soup in the pantry when you get hungry." Mom told me. I nodded and fell back asleep. When I awoke again, it was 10. Benji was standing in my doorway, breathing heavily.
I felt gross, so I took a shower. Afterwards I changed into my black yoga pants and a ballerina pink v neck. I pulled my hair into a messy bun, and slipped my house shoes on. I walked downstairs and opened a can of chicken noodle soup.
I sat in one of the chairs at the bar, and turned the tv on. A scary movie was on, so I turned it off. My phone rang, it showed Brendan calling me. I ignored it. A few minutes later he called again. I still ignored it.
When I finished my soup, I walked into the den. I turned Pocahontas on, and covered myself with a yellow blanket. My phone rang again, but this time it was Todd. I ignored it.
Why won't they leave me alone?
Jordan texted me.
Jordan: Hey, why aren't you at school?
Me: I'm sick :/
Jordan: Tyler is too.
Me: I probably got him sick.
Jordan: How?
Me: He came over last night.
I couldn't text him anymore because I was in the bathroom throwing up. I crawled back to the den, and pulled my blanket off the the couch. Pocahontas was singing Just Around The River Bed.
"Ashi?" I heard Brendan's voice call out. I didn't want to talk so I threw a pillow up the four steps and into the hallway. He saw the pillow and picked it up. He saw me in the floor and came over.
He lifted me up and laid me on the couch. "Are you okay?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Ashi, I'm sorry. I was only worried about you. I don't want you to be sad." He said.
I looked at him, seeing if what he said was real. It was, he looked so concerned and sincere. I took a deep breath in. I was going to tell him. "Tomorrow is...." I took a shaky breath, "My sister's seven year anniversary." I said.
He looked at me, confused. "Well, Ill tell you the story." I told him. He sat on the couch, and nodded for me to continue. "I had an older sister, her name was Maleigha. She had stage 4 cancer, and when she was 13, I was only 10, she died."
"She was my best friend, other than Carly. Carly was staying the night with me the night Maleigha was rushed to the hospital. When people bring it up, all the memories of us when she was alive, and healthy come up into my mind. Then I see her taking her daily chemotherapy treatment, and how she was slowly dying." Brendan pulled me into his lap, and wiped a tear off of my cheek.
"I'm sorry. It's okay, you'll be okay." He said.
I laid my head onto his shoulder. Scott never touched me when it came to this. He would actually leave. We sat like that for a long time until I got hungry.
Brendan gave me medicine, then made some soup. We sat at the table. Honestly, I was feeling better, and Brendan made me laugh a lot.
"You have a thing against gnomes?" He laughed.
"Yes! There's something that bugs me. It's like, they look so innocent and cute. They can't be so innocent and cute. I bet when people look away they start dancing and making weird faces at people." I said.
"So they remind you of yourself?" He asked.
I nodded, and he laughed. Until I just got what he said, "Wait no! They are nothing like me!" I said.
He laughed harder. "Yeah, they look cute and innocent but they are secretly badasses. That's just like you. Except you're beautiful."
I blushed. "I am not like those sneaky little garden gnomes."
"Okay, whatever you say, you prankster." He smirked.
"I will punch you."
He patted his shoulder. I raised my fist and punched him. He laughed. "You punch like a girl!"
"I am a girl!" I yelled.
"Whatever, don't touch me I don't want to get sick." He smiled.
I fake coughed on him.
"Great, now I'm going to die!" He yelled.
I blew a kiss to him and put my bowl in the dishwasher. When I turned around he was standing behind me. He trapped me between him and the counter. His arms were on the marble counter tops, and touched my sides.
He looked into my eyes, then to my lips. He looked back up to my eyes, then looked away. He started pulling his arms away, but I sat them back onto the counter.
He looked surprised. I looked at his lips, then closed the gap between us. Wow, and I thought Scott was a good kisser. Brendan's lips were soft, and he knew what he was doing. When I kissed Scott, it didn't feel like anything special, but with Brendan, a warmth over took me.
I pulled away. Brendan was smirking. "Gross, I have Ashi germs."
