Eleven
The sound of Asher's knuckles meeting the door reverberated throughout the hallways as he waited anxiously for Zach to open the door. Is it too late to leave? It'd been years since the two had hung out as friends and Asher wasn't sure whether he'd made the right decision by coming here.
The sound of feet running towards the door pulled him out of his thoughts before a girl who looks about five opens the door.
"Hi!"
Asher was shocked at how similar she looked to Zach. It was hard to notice her similarities to Brooke if you didn't know her like Asher did, but although he hadn't seen her in years, he still recognised them. He could see the freckles that dotted her face just like her mother's.
"Hey Em! It's been a while since I've seen you, do you remember me?"
Em gives Asher a shake of her head and she becomes noticeably nervous, head pointed down at the ground.
"I'm one of your dad's friends, I'm Asher."
She gives off a smile and then looks back up to him, not quite meeting his eyes. She was nervous. He couldn't blame her, he was too.
He had this feeling in the pit of his stomach, a feeling he couldn't quite explain but could feel nonetheless. He knew he didn't really have a reason to be nervous but he did. Was it bad to dread meeting his old friend's daughter?
"Hey Ace, good to see you. I didn't think you were going to take me up on my offer."
"Yeah, neither did I," Asher mumbled to himself and he met Zach's gaze with a nervous breath.
"Well come in," Zach walked further into the house as Asher closed the front and quickly caught up to his old friend.
"How's Brooke?"
"She's good. She's out with Ella and Phoebe getting coffee. It's so nice to have them all hanging out together again, it was as if Phoebe had dropped off the face of the earth for a moment there," Zach reflected but knew he must've said something wrong judging by the look on Asher's face
"Pardon?"
"Uh, nothing," Asher knew there was something that Zach wasn't telling him and he wanted to know what it was.
