I continued to run through the woods. That is until I hit something with quite a bit of force. So much so that I toppled over. I suppose I didn't really hit something it's just that my legs stopped so fast that the rest of my body wasn't ready. I sat panting for a moment until I felt my body pull me toward a fallen tree. My interest blossomed as I began seeking out what in the Hyrule led me here. I moved my hand around underneath the tree. I felt a large lump underneath the log and I started to dig underneath the moss until I pulled out an egg. I had never in my life seen an egg this size. I picked it up and felt the warmth of the egg connect with me. I felt a thrum as if a very loud heartbeat was trying to talk to me. I hugged it close to my body I felt as if it was my job to protect the little thing. Suddenly I heard the sound of moving footsteps and breaking brush. I hid under the log and held the egg closer to my body to protect it. I felt the egg tense as if it too knew we were in danger. I then let out a sigh of relief as Vio broke through the last of the ferns. I began climbing out of the log as Vio rushed over his face full of relief.
Vio: "Oh thank goodness you are alright." I approached her and hugged her lightly. This was an odd sensation considering I don't hug people however I pulled back out of it quickly enough before anyone would notice.
I felt myself blush a little at this but he didn't seem to notice. Then I heard Green and Blue walking closer to us.
Green: "Opal!" I called jogging over to her and Vio a worried frown on my face.
Blue: "What the heck are you doing all the way out here? Red was worried sick! I stomped over to her fuming. And what is that?!" I reached out to see what she was clutching to her chest.
I sensed the egg shrinking back from Blue's touch. Our emotions crashed together mixing rapidly. It was scared, terrified even. The feelings were too familiar to what I felt not long before I met them. The overwhelming terror yet that bonded with my personal helplessness. I responded to all of its fear by biting Blue's finger.
Blue: "Youch! Why did you do that?!!" I grabbed her arm as she flinched away from me.
Green: "Enough Blue! Let's get Opal back to camp she seems pretty startled after being lost in the woods for a few hours." I gave her a caring but uncertain smile as I tried to steer Blue away from her.
I started walking back to camp with them. I did notice Vio would often glance over at me, his face full of questions that I couldn't really answer. I sighed and continued trudging through the woods till we reached camp. I smelled something amazing and knew Red must have made some food.
Red: "Opal!" I ran over to her tears still visible in my eyes. I then hugged her super tight.
I always thought of Red as being the weaker one on the team but as he hugged me I changed my mind. Thankfully I was able to keep the egg from being smashed my chest, however, was another story.
Vio: "Red I think you are crushing her." I said tapping his shoulders and shaking my head playfully.
Red: "Oops sorry. Anyway, I made some food for you guys and finished setting up the camp. It's wild mushroom and fish soup. I already tried it and it was super good and-"
Blue: "Alright shut up already you little twerp!"
Green: "Knock it off Blue stop being mean to Red!"
Then they both started arguing again. How the heck do they even work together?
Red: I sighed and decided Opal was probably really hungry. So I grabbed her hand and pulled her over to the fire pit. Where my stew continued to let off a truly yummy fragrance.
I walked with Red eager to devour the food he gave me. The smell made my mouth water and I felt hungrier than I thought I would. Maybe I was getting too used to having food all the time that I started noticing how much I needed it.
Vio: I wandered over to the fire and sat next to Opal. I decided to let her eat before asking her about the strange object that she tried so desperately to hide in her shawl.
After eating every single drop of Red's amazing soup I felt the egg thrum with joy. It was happy that I felt relaxed and refreshed. I took it out of the shawl and held it close to my cheek. I felt it bump me in an almost playful way. I smiled and stroked its shell. I mean I didn't really know how to show affection to an egg but it didn't protest so I thought that it at least tolerated what I was doing.
Vio: I moved closer to her side trying to see what she held to her face better. Only to find in wonder that she held a rather large egg. It was covered in multicolored speckles and the eggshell itself was black. "How in the world did you ever find the egg at night with no source of light?" I asked her that after a few moments of observing the egg. She responded with writing the words: 'I don't know I felt as if I was being forced to go towards the place you found me. I then felt as I had heard a call for help. But not with a noise I could hear with my ears. It was as if I only heard it in my mind. I felt around and found it and then you guys noticed me.' I nodded and asked, "Would it be okay if I held it?"
I looked down unsure of what to do. The egg didn't show any displeasure with the idea of Vio holding it. So I carefully handed it to Vio watching him all the while as he looked at it from many different angles. He then handed it back to me casually as he went to grab a few books from his bag. Green and Blue finally stopped fighting and decided to come over to the fire to eat. Blue, however, continued to give me a death glare but didn't say anything. I felt a little bad for literally snapping at him so I went and sat next to him.
Blue: "What the heck do you want?" I huffed at her and continued to eat.
I bent down on my knees and wrote: 'Sorry,' on the ground. Then bowed my head low, like I used to for my Master when I tripped up or something. The difference was that my Master would usually whip me after. Blue, of course, did not.
Blue: I stood and asked her to do the same. I then said, "Look I am not very good at saying I am sorry but-" I scrunched up my face unhappily as I said, " ... I'm s.. s... sorry."
I smiled at his attempt at apologizing and held out my hand for him to shake it.
Blue: I smiled and clasp her hand in a strong handshake. "There now we are even," I said as squeezed her hand until it hurt.
I let out a yelp of pain and he laughed as he sat back down and continued to eat. I walked back over to Vio cradling my now bruised hand.
Vio: I chuckled at her displeased face and said, "Well look who finally decided to apologize to Blue." She sighed at me and then leaned over my shoulder to better view what I was reading. I had been searching for what the strange egg was and turned up nothing. After a few moments of watching her read I said, "Do you think that you can find the town tomorrow?" She nodded and I smiled as she then yawned.
I fell asleep with my last thought being, Am I a Mother now? The egg seemed to thrum as if it had heard my thought and liked the idea. Sleep settled on my heavy eyes and I fell into sleep.
After a while, everyone turned in unaware that someone was lurking very near.
Whoo! Over 1270 words! This story is on a roll!
Vio: It seemed to flow quite well.
Blue: You better hope people don't end up hating it.
Green: Blue! Look what you did you did you are going to make her have a worry attack!
Unknown huddles in a corner
Red: It's ok Unknown I think the story is really great!
Unknown: Thanks, Red sigh.
Vio: Oh come on cheer up or else Red will have to tickle you again.
Unknown: Nope I am good!
Red: Aww, please.
Unknown: Sorry cutie but never again.
Vio: Well at least we can end this soon and get back to the library.
Unknown: Yes, all right let's get this over with.
