My eyelids dare to close for the millionth tonight. I’ve been working on the right recipe for the Crab Festival. I even tried flavoring the frosting with crab and let me tell ya, bad idea.
“Honey, just go to bed. Start with a fresh mind tomorrow.” Sean says. I learned something important about Sean this afternoon; he can’t cook or bake worth his life. Seriously! He’s the most useless person in the kitchen. Which means that he’s been sitting in the kitchen as my taste-tester, and begging me to stop for the evening.
“I don’t have time for that. Between actual work, your stupid training schedule, and acting like a normal teenager, my schedule is full.”
“And so you skip out on our date to bake some test subjects?” He asks with a hint of hurt in his voice.
Okay, so I may have accidentally stood him up this afternoon. I got too caught up with my recipes that I forgot about the date until he walked through the door. “Sean, I already apologized a million times for that. Plus I’ll make up the date some other time, like after this terrible party.”
“You’ll make it up all right. Along with the five other dates you’ve skipped out on.” I hear his footsteps walk across the room before feeling his arms around my waist. “Come to bed, sleep on it. I’m sure you’ll wake up suddenly and have a recipe to write down. But for now, you need sleep.” His lips brush against my cheek, “I’m starting to think you have something else on your mind,” he whispers.
Sometimes I hated how well he could read me. I guess it wasn’t that much of a surprise since I’ve been baking all the time these days. I turn around in his arms and pull him closer, “I’m scared,” I admit, my voice muffled by his shirt.
Sean pulls back to look into my eyes, “scared of what?”
“I don’t know. I just have this terrible feeling all the time that’s been stressing me out. Like something horrible is going to happen.”
He rubs my back in a calming matter, “hey, whatever may come our way we’ll handle together, okay? And I won’t let anything happen to you, nor will any of the guys at soccer. You’re safe here.”
“I know. That’s why this feeling sucks so much more. I don’t have a reason to be scared.”
“Everything will be alright.” He twirls me around so that I’m facing the doorway, “now go upstairs, take a nice bubble bath and relax. I’ll clean things down here and then head up.”
“But-”
Sean cuts me off, pressing his lips to mine, “no ‘buts,’” he says, and gives me a little push towards the door before turning towards the big stack of dishes.
I follow his instructions and head upstairs to relax. He was right; I needed a break from everything. Baking had started to turn from a way of relaxing to another thing to stress me out. Minutes passed and I slowly fell asleep in the tub, forgetting about all my worries.
The next morning I woke up in my own bed. Sean was next to me, his arms tightly around my waist. I try to quietly move out of his grip but he only held on tighter, “don’t you dare go down to the kitchen.” He says, his voice still edged with tiredness.
“Sean,” I whine, knowing that this was the same routine we went through every morning. “It’s 6, I’m already late.”
“Nope, not this morning. Now go back to sleep.” I turn to face him, noticing that his eyes were still closed as if he wouldn’t accept that it was morning.
“But I have work.”
He groans and opens his eyes to glare at me, “do the words, ‘nope, not this morning,’ not click in your mind?”
“I wish you were right, but I don’t get days off.”
Another groan escapes from him and I can’t help but get a little turned on with each one. What can I say; he’s hot in the morning. “Just trust your boyfriend, Lindsey. Don’t go to work, I called your aunt and worked it out. Today I’m taking you out to relax, but for now we’re going to sleep.” His eyes shut and he doesn’t say another word for a few hours. I on the other hand, lay wide awake, waiting for Sean to wake up.
“What should I wear today?” I ask, sitting up in bed.
Sean smirks, “well I was thinking of stopping by a nude beach, so technically you won’t need anything…” He trails off suggestively and I slap his arm. “Ow! Okay, I’m kidding! Just shorts and a tank top will work fine. Don’t forget your swimsuit, oh and bring something warmer for tonight.”
“We’re going to be gone all day?”
“Yup, you need a day off from everything.
”but-” he holds up his hand to shush me, and sadly it works.
“Remember what I said last night? No ‘buts.’ Now go get dressed, I have a day full of fun for us.”
“You’re the one that wouldn’t get out of bed until 8.”
“And now look who’s acting lazy?” I stick my tongue out at him and he chuckles before leaving my room.
Soon we were on the road. Of course I had no idea where we were headed, but I’m sure it has something to do with the ocean. About an hour later he pulls into a deserted parking lot. I could smell the sea but it was nowhere in sight. I’m sure that just beyond the thick bushes was the beautiful blue water.
Sean takes my hand in his and turns to face me, “before we start the day, I just want you to know that I’m not doing any of this to show off how much money my family really does have. If I were poor I’d find a way to get this done for you because you deserve a break like this. Understand?”
“Of course. Now please, can we get this road on the show?
Sean chuckles and leads the way through the bushes. The sun was bright in the sky, shining specifically on the object of interest, almost like a spotlight. But even with the blinding sun, nothing could cover up the sight that was in front of me.
Because right there in front of me floating on the glistering water is Star Light. And by the looks of it, Star Light was quite a gorgeous yacht.
Sorry it's been a year for this story! I hope you still enjoy this chapter though. I'll try to get another chapter out soon, but like I said towards the beginning of writing this, I kind of toss it onto the back burner and use it when I get inspiration, so it might not be that soon.
