Olly ended up calling Greg and filling him in on what happened.
I was sitting in the passenger seat with my backpack on my lap.
"Please don't call my parents," I said, turning to Greg. "They'll probably send me away."
He glanced at me and smiled weakly.
Suddenly I felt my phone buzzing against my denim clad thigh.
I pressed the little green button and held the speaker to my ear.
"Shayden Crae, where in heavens name are you?!"
Mom.
Olly must have seen me go pale, because she gestured for the phone. I handed it to her.
"Hi Mrs. Crae!"
"Olivia, I should have known. My daughter is tainted because of you queer millennials. I was going to raise a functioning member of society, but no. This is your fault." I heard my mothers voice, she was so loud. She continued. "Bring my daughter home, NOW."
Olly's smug smile had grown in just a matter of minutes.
"No."
She ended the call.
She handed me back my Samsung and just continued doodling.
I put my phone in my pocket and stared out the window for the rest of the trip.•
The truck came to a stop.
"Oh, Shay. Do you have any allergies to animals?" Greg asked.
"No."
"Good."
I unbuckled my seatbelt and grabbed my backpack. I opened the door and stepped onto the gravel driveway.
I looked up at the house, and damn...
It was massive!
Olly lives on a huge farm, complete with various animals such as cats and geese. Olly has a conure, which is a bird, named Julian. Last I recall, they have a house-cat named Lucy, too.
I slammed the truck door shut and followed Olly up the long, gravel driveway. Greg popped the trunk and got Olly's black bike out of the back of the truck. He brought it to the garage and went into the house through there. Olly opened the door and stepped I stepped inside with her. The walls were white, and the flooring was dark wood.
I took off my combat boots and followed Olly upstairs.
"We have a guest room for you, so you don't have to sleep on the floor." She said, smiling at me. She opened yet another door and I was greeted with Lucy bolting out the door.
I placed my backpack on the small corner desk and sat on the swivel chair.
"So... does your mother know I'm staying here?"
"....shit."
