The next day, her mom had to drive Olly back to the hospital, to get her stitches removed.
I held a little toy mouse by its tail and wiggled it in front of Benny's head. I'm pretty sure Benny is my favourite.
The rest of the kittens lived in the basement with Willam and Lucy.
It was raining out, and the cousins that came over the first night were through mud at eachother. I could see them from my window.
Suddenly, the siding outside started to rattle.
There were loud thuds coming from the roof.
A strange beeping emitted from the TV in the living room.
I heard yelling from downstairs and outside.
Oh no.

I picked up my phone and dialled Olly's number. She picked up on the second ring.
"OLLY—"
I heard yelling from the other end.
"We know! We're almost to our street!"
The power went out and the cousins screamed.
The line went dead.
I picked up Benny, a blanket, and hidden stash of granola bars from my closet.
I ran downstairs.
Everything was dark. They must have gone to the cellar without me.
I ran outside and hid Benny with my hoodie. The wind thrashed my hair,  the rain and hail beating down on me.
"SHAYDEN!!"
I turned around.
Greg.
He ran to me and hugged me.
"Olly isn't here!!"
"WE HAVE TO GO WITHOUT HER!!"
"NO!!"
He grabbed my wrist. I yanked it free.
I handed Benny to him and ran down the driveway. I booked it down the road for a solid three minutes. A tree came crashing down behind me. I suddenly saw non-moving headlights.
No.
I could hear my heart beating as I sprinted to the car.
no.
it was olly's mom's car in the ditch.

I pried the door open. Her mom had a cut on her cheek that was dripping blood. Olly was unconscious.
I pulled her mom out.
"RUN. ILL GET OLLY!!"
She nodded and sprinted home. I pulled Olly out of the passenger seat.
I picked her up bridal style.
I ran as fast as I could, harder than before. I tripped and fell on the gravel road.
Olly woke up when I fell.
She stood up and looked around.
"GET UP WE GOTTA MOVE!!!"
I tried to get up, but I couldn't.
"SHAY!!!"
"just go... run."
She stared at me. She ran.
I felt the darkness take me in.

I opened my eyes briefly. I was being rushed through a hospital hallway.
Olly looked down as I grabbed her hand.
"Please Shay... don't leave me so soon.." she whispered.
"My love, take your time...." I whispered back, knowing a Hamilton reference would make her smile.

"I'll see you on the other side."
