Your characters need to have a personality. You characters cant just no have one . . . then it would just be a side character.

Here are some of the personalities I use/see:

The happy, cheerful one:
These characters tend to be positive about everything. They always find a way to be happy. This character is usually the main characters best friend.

The depressing, negative one:
This character tends to be negative about everything. This ends up being a drag for the other characters. It makes the reader wonder if the character is suffering from some kind of depression.

The mean one:
This one is usually the mean girl/boy in the story. They end tend to pick on the main character and be a show off. They rarely regret what they have done and continue they're mean ways throughout the whole story. This is usually the character that the readers don't like.

The bad(Fierce) one:
A character like this is usually very brave and powerful. This character almost always has someone to fight for. This character has the ability to fight awesomely. In a rare occasion, this character is the villain.

The smart one:
This character tends to be the one behind the computers and technology in the story. A character like this is usually found wearing glasses and is a major geek or nerd. (Soooooo annoying! Don't do that, don't put them in glasses and call then geeks or nerds!) Most of the time this character is shy and does whatever he/she is told (don't do this either. Make them the strong one, make them rebellious or have an attitude. I dare you!) Coming to the end of the book the character usually realizes that he/she is not just a computer freak and becomes the bad one (Ha yes do this!)

The joker one:
Gahh . . . This is usually the character that makes the readers laugh with the puns or comebacks and insults (You better make this character have the best personality of them all) The readers should fall in love with them. (And if your like me,a devious, loud person you will kill off the character right before the end of the story and have all the others characters go all hulk on the person who killed them) They are completely awesome in every way. This character is corky and loveable and just plain awesome! (Ha this is Sammy in my book [ @CaliKat000 ] Minor Abilities CHECK IT OUT!

THE DUMB ONE:
This character tends to be oblivious to everything that's going on. He/she randomly pops up in the book and is just there either to make the readers laugh or to be the one to die. This character is mostly useless to the plot and can be replaced by a plant pot and the book will still have the same effect. (Boring character. I don't advise creating this character. Its a waste of your time.)

The perfect or unrealistic one:
Ahh! This character is So. Dang. Annoying! He she is always doing EVERYTHING perfectly and is just well . . . perfect. This character is unrealistic and not relatable in anyway. Readers tend to hate this character (I understand why) but he/she eventually, most likely, hopefully gets killed off or makes a mistake and realizes they don't have to be perfect and then becomes the sloppiest person ever! Okai, I'm okai . . .
