"Morning sunshine!" a vexatious voice seeped its way into Ryan's blissful dream. He wished it away and sunk deeper into the warmth of the bed. A tug on his bedding only made him snuggle the cotton material covering him tighter. He muttered something under his breath and continued his slumber. Before he could drift off to a land of endless bliss, his warm covers were ripped off his body. The sudden cool air caused him to sit up startled. He rubbed his eyes trying to focus on his surroundings. The annoying voice was now in fits of laughter. He looked over to the next bed and saw Joe clutching his ribs from the apparent strain his laughter was causing.

"What's so funny?" He asked the now hysterical man whose laughter only intensified.

Ryan reached for his phone on the bedside table and checked the time. The blinking numerical letters made him jump off the bed, grab a towel and rush into the bathroom. There were only ten minutes left before they had to leave the hotel. Hardly enough time to shower, dress and grab a bite before the long journey. He growled when he realized that his predicament was the reason for his best friend's amusement.

He barely made it to the waiting car. Ryan did a quick scan of the eight seats therein. Gwen's slender frame and blond hair caught his attention. She was in the very back seat of the car seemingly lost in the music playing through her headphones. She looked up and their eyes locked. He instantly looked away and settled in the empty seat next to his grinning friend, grateful for the two filled rows of seats behind them. At this moment, he would gladly seat through five hours of Joe and his snide remarks, rather than put himself in the clutches of deception clothed in a beautiful body and waist-long blonde hair! Oh, that hair, why had she worn it like that, she knew what it did to him...

"So, what were you dreaming about this morning?" asked Joe spotting a sly smile.

"What?" Irritation clear in his tone, he turned to glare at his friend.

"This morning, your alarm went off, you snoozed it and went back to sleep, I woke you up a couple of times, once before I went to the shower, another before I went for breakfast and each time you just groaned, in pleasure might I add and went back to sleep!" He chuckled. "Hence my question, could your dream have involved a certain blond sitting several seats behind us?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about!" He snapped and faced away from the all too amused Joe.

"Yeah sure, I saw how you looked at her when you came in, you saw her last night didn't you?"

He shrugged and shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Did you know that she was going on this trip?"

"Not a clue. I just saw her when I came down. Did you guys talk?"

"Yeah, a little. She found me at the reception, we had a drink, a chat then I went up to the room."

"Are you guys okay?"

Ryan shrugged, "Friendly, yeah."

"Are you sure that's all you want?" Joe raised a brow.

"Pretty certain. I just walked out of a pretentious relationship, I am not about to walk into another one. Least of all one where I am bound to lose regardless."

"Maybe she has changed."

Ryan scoffed at the thought. He would have to see it to believe it. His stomach growled promptly welcoming back his sullen mood. Had his so-called friend actually woken him as he was claiming, he would have fed the rumbling monster. He leaned back in his seat and dreaded the five hours ahead.

Northern Kenya.

An arid expanse welcomed their convoy as they pulled into a hospital's parking lot, their first stop before heading to the refugee camp. The compound was littered with small clusters of sickly people. Some sat on propped benches around the compound, while others lay on the ground trying to regain some strength in their already frail bodies. The convoy attracted everyone's attention as the doctors alighted. A willowy lady in a blue nurse's uniform approached them, pure relief written on her angelic face.

"Finally, you guys made it! This place is a sinking ship." Said her fruity voice

"Why? What happened?" asked the team leader as he went to shake her hand. "I'm Dr. David Moore."

"Nice to meet you, Dr. Moore, I am Nurse Halima Sintamei. There is a cholera outbreak in the refugee camp, all my remaining staff has been called in to help, and as you can see I am a little overwhelmed." She chuckled.

"Okay, we were directed here to deliver some medicine but it looks like you need doctors too."

"Yes, I need at least one pediatrician and one general practitioner."

"Okay then, I will leave you with Dr. Mitchell a pediatrician, and Dr. Sanjay a GP."

Ryan followed at the mention of his name. Nurse Sintamei flashed him a radiant smile when he shook her hand revealing a symmetrical set of dazzling dimples. His heart gave a slight flutter. Her warm hand was gone too fast as she went on to shake Dr. Sanjay's hand. He reprimanded himself as he tried to pry his gaze from her high ponytail which held firm curly midnight-black hair.

They were directed to different offices, ready to see the line of patients that awaited them. Ryan settled himself behind the desk and tried to occupy himself as he awaited nurse Sintamei's departure, she walked to the door and then paused looking back at him.

"I look forward to working with you Dr. Mitchell." She smiled again sending a shiver down his spine. Without wasting more time, she opened the door and stepped out leaving her floral sent floating in the room.

"Get a grip, Ryan!" He murmured, "as if you don't have enough problems with Gwen hanging around." He sighed as the first patient was ushered in.
