Ryan awoke with a bright smile lighting his features. The memories of the previous night filled him with joy and gladness. Halima had shown him just how much she loved him. Of all the women he had been with, none had ever given her virtue to him, yet she had. He had easily got lost in the moment that he forgot to ask why she had been crying when he came in.

He turned to her side of the bed, only to find it empty. "She must be getting ready for work."  He thought. "I should probably get ready too." He swung his legs off the bed and as he was standing up, a notepad with Halima's handwriting caught his eyes.

Ryan,

My mother passed on last night, I am going to the funeral.

Halima.

Joe read it one more time, unbelieving. "That's it? No address where the funeral is taking place? No, I will be back soon? No explanation why she didn't tell you last night if you were with her all night." He reiterated Ryan's thoughts. Ryan who had been pacing up and down the living area, ever since he found the note and called his friends, only nodded.

Nika sat cross-legged on one of the bean bag chairs watching silently. "What happened Ryan? Did you guys have a fight? This doesn't make sense, her leaving like that without telling any of us."

"We had fought earlier in the day but we...we made... Oh my, am such an idiot!" He murmured finally realizing his mistake. "I slept with her... She was distraught, clearly, something was up when I came in. She must have gotten the news about her mother then. She couldn't talk, every time she tried, she cried instead. When she finally composed herself all she did was say that she couldn't lose me. Then it happened..." He said slumping down in an empty bean bag chair.

"Oh wow." Said Joe.

"Okay, I don't get it." Said Nika. "You guys have been dating for a while, isn't that something you already do?" She watched Ryan shake his head vigorously.

"No, she was saving herself..."

Joe exchanged surprised looks with the princess. They then both turned to watch their friend who was spiraling fast. "Dude, you guys have been playing house for too long, it was bound to happen at some point."

"You have no idea how long I have waited for it. Now that it finally happened, I couldn't think of anything worse."

"What? Why?" Asked Nika confusion evident in her face. She didn't understand why two people who loved each other were now regretting a passionate night.

"I need to find her and go after her. She lost three things last night, she's not picking her phone and is now somewhere out on the road, driving by herself."

Joe raised a hand quieting the princess who was about to throw in more questions. "Well, we can't follow her, first, she has a couple of hours headstart, then none of us know where the funeral is taking place." He said, coming to sit next to her. "I'll explain later." He whispered in her ear.

Nika, satisfied with his promise decided to help with the search instead. "What about social media." She asked, "you can locate anyone on there nowadays."

"Halima doesn't have a social media account." Said Ryan.

"None at all?"

"None."

"What about her sister, Fatima, she was on the phone a lot when we met her, must be social media." Said Joe, scratching his head.

"Oh yeah, the pink selfie stick, hanging from her clutch strap." Said Nika, eyes brightening at the small lead. "Hopefully she uses her real name in her accounts." She rose to her feet and retrieved Ryan's laptop from the kitchen counter. She resumed her position and started typing frantically, once the machine came to life.

Ryan pulled his seat and brought it beside theirs, looking over Nika's shoulder.

"What's Halima's last name?" She asked.

"Sintamei." Both replied in unison.

After a couple of tries, Fatima Sintamei bore no results, on any of the platforms. Suddenly Joe's features brightened, "Try Fatima Hussein." He said as Nika went on to type it in. "Her mother introduced herself as Mrs. Hussein." He explained after noticing Ryan's quizzical look.

"Found her! Here is her Facebook profile." Said Nika, clicking at a small picture icon. "Okay, there is no phone number but we can befriend her, leave a message and here, there is even an email you can use." She finished handing the laptop to Ryan who was still staring at Halima's face, only it wasn't her. The woman staring back at her was as beautiful as his Halima only, there was something different about her. Especially with the hijab covering her hair, "they are so similar yet so different". He thought.

"This may take forever." He said, after sending the messages. "I hope she logs in soon."

If anyone had told Halima that she was capable of shedding so many tears, she wouldn't have believed them. She had a pretty rough drive, the usually rough terrain posed even more challenges as she neared the city. Thanks to the stormy weather, she found herself starting to pray several times but each time, guilt held her down. She couldn't utter a word, she didn't know what to say. So instead, she cried.

Once in the city, the network signal now showed four bars, her phone started receiving a series of text messages, a call came through. It was Fatima.

"Hello, sis."

"I have been calling you forever, your phone was going straight to voicemail. Are you okay?" Came Fatima's frantic voice.

"Yeah I'm fine, I just got into the city. There is a huge storm, but I'm headed to the airport. Where are you guys?"

"We are in Mombasa. If you do not get a flight out here in the next hour, call me so I can ask Salim to come and get you."

"Salim's there?"

"Everyone is here Hay, don't worry about him, he already accepted your decision."

"Alright, I will c..." The sound of Screeching tires filled the air. Halima turned her head to the deafening sound only to come face to face with a pair of bright headlights, moving speedily towards her.

She had a split second, to either hurl herself out of her car, to certain death or to pray.

"God forgive me!" She said. A loud bang filled the air as the two cars collided, her jeep was hurled off the tarmac, it rolled several times down a slight cliff. Screams filled the air as passengers and spectators alike witnessed the horrific scene. Then all went blank.

Fatima froze. The dial tone from the other end told her what she feared most. Halima had been involved in an accident.
