"What is this about?" I asked, looking up expectantly at Miss White

"What is this about?" I asked, looking up expectantly at Miss White.

I was followed her to the fourth floor to meet with the Headmistress, and Miss White seemed awfully cryptic. She hasn't said a word since I left the courtyard to go follow her.

"Miss White?" I asked again, eager for a response.

She turned her head and gave me another reassuring smile, "I've told you that I don't know. Nobody seems to tell me anything anymore" She shakes her head softly, and I continue trudging up the stairs behind her.

Once we reached the fourth floor, we made a few turns down winding hallways until we stopped in front of the familiar mahogany doors. I wanted to say something but I held my tongue. I had an inkling what this meeting was about, my supposed royalty, apparently. Despite the parental tests, I still didn't want to believe it. I couldn't see myself as anybody's Princess, let alone a whole empire.

No matter how small it may be

Miss White rapped on the door with her knuckles, waiting patiently to hear a voice beckoning us inside.

Ms. Belcourt had her head held high as she looked down upon us, her usual ruby lips smeared into an easy smile. She sat behind her desk, regally, and her eyes lit up once they saw me come through the door. I felt uneasy as soon as I stepped into her office, for the third time in my life.

Miss White gave me another smile before exiting the room, leaving me alone with the Headmistress. Looking back at her, she motioned to the armchair before her desk, "Sit" she ordered. I complied.

"Now I'm sure you probably know why I've called you in here" She starts.

"I actually don't" I interject.

She purses her lips before speaking again. "Well, the situation has changed Serene".

Once she utters my true biological name, I knew what this entire meeting would be about. It would be about the royal thing and me, and how I need to step up to this giant role. Alfred already lectured me on it, and I wasn't in the mood to deal with another.

"Aspen, if you please" I corrected, as politely as I could.

"Well- Aspen. I've recently learned the truth about you, and I am here to invite you to the chancellor's lunch two days from now. I will have Alfred send you the details, of course. The chancellors will be here to meet you, I have set it up in a way that no one will hear of this. Do you understand what I'm telling you?" She speaks to me as if I was a child.

I nodded my head, sure I understood her. But I wasn't sure if she was asking me to go or telling me, I figured it was the latter.

"You are to represent not only the school but your species" She continues, "If you have any questions please feel free to ask".
