Saturday morning there was an assembly. Ms. Belcourt came into the dining hall just after breakfast was served, a line of teachers trailing behind her.
She made loud click clacks with her heels, and a cold smile splashed across her frozen face. It seemed she put on a mask before the student body, giving the allusion of a perfect headmistress. It made me wonder how old she was exactly, I didn't remember her gift or if she was one to fear. She reached the podium and smiled down at the students, who were curiously gazing up at her. Damien, who sat beside me now, scoffed.
"Probably about the Winter Ball tomorrow" He mutters, "She does this every year".
"Does what every year-"
"Good morning students!" Ms.Belcourt's loud voice forces me to quiet, the rest of the student's idle chatter dies down as she starts to speak.
"As you know" She continues, "Our Winter Ball is tomorrow night and I wish for everyone to be on their best behaviour. This is a night to show the chancellors along with other important people that we are a school with class, and grace. There will be no 'spiking the punch' or inappropriate dancing with your dates, am I understood?"
I hear incoherent mumbling throughout the room. She nods and smiles at their response, "Perfect. I wish you all a good day" She says before exiting the podium and leaving the dining hall, teachers in tow.
Lucy rolls her eyes, "She thinks she's so great" She mumbles. Damien laughs, "But you have to admit, the headmistress has style".
"Do you think there's a man in her life or is she uptight for a reason" Marina raises an eyebrow.
"You're disgusting!" Lucy chimes, tossing a fry in her direction. Marina catches it in her mouth and smiles at her sister who gives another eye roll. Blythe was sitting beside me, we haven't talked much since the incident. It seems that it shook her up more than it did me, despite the message actually being left for me. She ate her porridge without a worth, her eyes staring at the tablecloth lost in thought.
"Hey" I whisper to her, nudging her elbow with mine.
She looks up from the table and gives me a small smile, "Sorry I've been kind of out of it lately" She dismisses. She takes another spoonful of porridge.
"You haven't really talked to me since that night" I say, knowing that she knew what night I was referring to.
"Sorry" She mumbles. "I'm just a bit freaked out. Everything that's happened with Johanna, and Belle. My father wants to pull me out of school".
"Wait what?" Damien and Lucy come in, worry etched onto their faces. Blythe sighs, "No guys I'm not leaving. It's just my father wants to pull me out of school and place me in a vampire only boarding school. Sucky huh?" She buries her head in her hands.
