One More Light (Severus Snape's Love Story)

Chapter 6

"You are 4 months pregnant, Sam."

The doctor's words kept on sounding in Sam's mind. She was extremely happy. Of course she hoped that Severus was there with her when she heard the sound of her baby's heart beat for the first time. She kept on smiling and her hand was never leaving her belly.

Her mother concerned about it. Staring at her daughter who was glowing with happiness that she didn't even care that they were having lunch at the Yan's Kitchen, her favourite restaurant. She ate a lot, partly probably because she loved the food, and another part probably because she was pregnant. 

Her parents discussed the night before. As Fleur mentioned that seemed Sam didn't feel any resist or disgust by the baby. Although it was confirmed that she was captured by death eaters for more than 6 months and it was a public secret that female muggles were used and tortured until they died. 

Luna shared some stories about how several times Lady Malfoy came to the dungeon and checked up on her although she never entered or came close. She would just asked how was she feeling. At the beginning they thought it was because she was pregnant, and Lady Malfoy as a Lady she probably felt concern about it.

But then, news about pregnant muggles found dead implicitly showed different meaning. If they knew, they would immediately kill her. But why Sam could survive. Bill speculated that probably the death eater who was the father of the baby was Draco Malfoy. That would explain why Lady Malfoy concerned, it was her grandchild. But Hermione didn't feel so. She was convinced that it wasn't him. 

"I don't think it wasn't him. I know that it wasn't him."

That was what she repeatedly said to the others. She didn't want to explain how she knew it. But she was confirming it that what she knew was the truth. So Bill's speculation was closed. 

Another speculation risen. 

"Could it be Lucius Malfoy, himself?" Asked Bill.

But Luna said it couldn't be. Lady Malfoy didn't show any disgust or hate to Sam. She was still distance as she was always famous of. However, she showed some affection. It was more reasonable if it was Draco. But not Lucius.

"We don't know who is the father of the baby. But whoever he is, we are sure, that is the reason she escaped. After few days, we know that the whole thing was planned. Dobby mentioned that he was sent by his friend. Maybe Dobby's friend is the father. And that person also friends with the Malfoys. Good friends that Narcissa herself willing to check up on her," Fleur explained to Sam's parents, "And Lucius Malfoy is one of the most trusted person of Voldermort. He wouldn't betray him just for anyone. So this person is most likely very dear to them."

Sam's mother remembered that she asked, who could be that person. But both Fleur and Bill shook their head signing they didn't know.

"We are not close to them, although we are also pure blood, but the Malfoy is one of the old families in the Wizarding World. They don't make friends with us," Bill explained.

After the dinner that night before, after Sam went back to her room, her mother couldn't help but asked, "Is it me, or can you also feel that she has feeling toward the father of the baby."

Fleur turned to her husband before she answered, "I'm sorry. She once told us that she loves him."

Sam's father was very mad that the glass in his hand was shattered to the floor, causing her mother quickly cleaned it. 

"Was she brainwashed?" 

Again the couple turned to each other before they answered, "We don't really know, Mr. Edwards. You see, we never met someone who escaped them before. She's the only one. I'm not sure for others in the order. But the last time we checked with Kingsley, well, Kingsley is one of the highest rank in the order and in the Ministry. He also mentioned that this is rare. She probably is the only survivor."

"Could the father of the baby really a good person? I mean, Sam told me that."

"Now, you're just losing your mind like her," said Mr. Edwards.

"Well, Mr. Edwards," Bill said, "we are not sure. But looking at the evidence, most likely it is. The fact that she was suddenly placed in that dungeon right after our friend Luna was captured."

Looking at the stares of the couple, made Bill explained, "Oh Luna is a pure blood. She was captured because she's friends with Harry Potter."

"Don't forget, Dobby directly asked for her when he came. Most likely the person who sent him was the father," Fleur added.

"Yes, and Harry mentioned few times that Dobby is our ally. Death eaters won't friends with a house elf as well. You see, house elf is considered as slaves, so a death eater will look down on them. In other word, if Dobby can say that this person is his friend, most likely he is a good person. But the one that we don't know is who the person is and how he can be a death eater if he can be friends with Dobby."

Sam's mother looked at her daughter again and finally asked, "Who's the father of the baby? Do you know his name?"

She was surprised with her mother's straight forward question. Her hand raised on to the table, picking up her cup of tea and take a sip before placing it back on the table. She took her time to think whether or not she tell her.

Looking at her mother's earnest eyes, she answered the truth, "He's my professor. Severus Snape."

Her mother's eyes widened as she never thought that one of the school's teacher was actually a death eater, "He's a death eater?"

"But he's kind, mother. He's the reason I kept my sanity when I was there. And I'm sure he's the reason that I'm here now. I don't know why he chose to be a death eater. But I'm lucky as he's the one who begged for my life. He knelt down receiving tortures from Voldemort, because he asked mercy for me."

Sam's words like a water tap turned on that she continued to express her admiration to her former professor.

"Voldemort had commanded to kill me at that time. He knew I'm pregnant. Without doubt, Severus immediately knelt down and begged for mercy. I don't know what happened next because I gained and lost my conscious few times at that time. But then I was fully awaken, and I was already in different cell. He was holding me, healing me, giving me potion. Then he told me that I'm pregnant. He asked for my forgiveness. If he really a death eater, he wouldn't ask for my forgiveness." Her hands immediately cupped her mother's, "Mother, you must understand. He really cares for me."
