"NO, NO!" SAR'S ARMS THRASHED AROUND ON THE BED, LEGS ENTANGLING IN THE SHEETS. Sweat beaded on her forehead. "NO!" It was a distressingly pained cry that echoed throughout the facility.
In her mind, they were running. The white walls of the lab flashed past in a never-ending maze. Sar was ahead, the other children running behind her. Lune was helping to drag along Ten, James in hand with Seven and the rest beside them. One by one they got lost in the turns of the lab. It was just the three of them, and then just her and Lune, and soon, she was alone.
There was screaming — that was James. A higher one: Lune. Sar was crying out for them, running through the lab. But every time she thought she was getting closer the voices faded away and she was forced to double back. Sar was yelling their names.
I can't live without you! she thought, I can't live without you.
She awoke with a start, warm tears dripping down her cheeks and hands clutching onto the sheets. Her breaths came out in hard heaves. Sar's eyes were wide and darting. Her lungs struggled to take in air, breathing quick and shallow. Her body was frozen and hands shaking against the bed. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't breathe.
And then Lune was climbing up next to her. The older girl's arms wrapped around Sar, pulling her close. Her hands cupped the back of Sar's head. The little girl was sobbing now, weak fingers clutching at the back of Lenora's neck. Her knees were drawn up to the other girl as she cradled her. Her face was pressed into Lune's chest.
"Quiet, sweet thing." She was cradling Sar in gentle arms. "I'm here for you. I'm always going to be here for you."

ELEVEN SAT CRADLED IN SAR'S LAP. Somehow they'd found themselves back at the Wheeler household. Mike — who Sar found out was Nancy's brother (strange how everything seemed to be connected) — had insisted on it, so they could talk more about this situation. Sar and Steve had managed to both avoid Nancy and Mrs Wheeler, and were now seated in the boy's basement.
She'd found out that the curly haired boy was Dustin, and the taller dark-skinned boy was Lucas. The two teenagers were sitting at the table, while the other boys were standing across from them. Lucas and Mike were just staring at Sar and the girl in her lap, the latter's eyes darting judgementally to Steve every few seconds, who looked incredibly uncomfortable. Dustin was muttering to himself as he went through Mike's bookshelf. Sar was watching him curiously. Mike looked over, "Dustin — what are you doing?"
"Aha!" He pulled something out of the bottom shelf. It was a massive book, another stacked on top of it. Dustin slammed the pile of books down on the table in front of them. Eleven jumped at the loud noise. 'ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS MONSTER MANUAL'. The cover was completed with a dragon, a centaur holding a bat, a unicorn, and about three other creatures Sar didn't know. She wrinkled her nose at the sight of it.
