SAR REMEMBER TWO'S HUMMING AS THE GIRL TIED BRAIDS INTO SAR'S SHORT HAIR. They hadn't shaved her head yet. Two's own hair was an impossibly light blonde, surrounding her head in an ethereal glow against the harsh laboratory lights above. Her singing was soft and angelic, echoing in Sar's ear.

"Emma," Sar had said, pressing herself up against the front of Two's long legs. The couple had been separated from the others momentarily to be tested. "Are they going to let us go?" The lab gown swum around her thin frame, much too large for a girl of seven.

"I don't know." Sar could hardly remember what Two's voice had sounded like now, just a gentle whisper in her memory. One of the braids fell over Sar's thin shoulder. It was a heavenly memory, of a loving sister's hands that she would treasure forever. Two's humming still echoed in her ears as she closed her eyes.

"SAR!" A HUFFING MIKE CAUGHT UP WITH HER JUST AT THE BEGINNING OF LUNCH. He was looking guilty, hands in his pockets. She slowed her walk, eyes still melancholic. "I'm sorry we were acting weird," he said, looking apologetic. His eyebrows were furrowed in concern. "Billy tried to run us over yesterday, in his car. Max saved us." He said the words as if slightly guilty, eyes wavering.

Sara's eyebrows were raised to the top of her head. "He what?" she seethed. The girl's rage seemed to drain as she scanned his stance, hands still by his side and slumped. "Are you okay?" The girl touched his shoulders, looking him over concernedly.

He grimaced. "I fell over and hurt my elbow," Mike said. She instinctively reached to lift his elbow, inspecting the cut. "I just... it's— it's why we were acting weird." He spoke nervously, eyes not meeting hers. She wasn't perceptive enough to pick up it wasn't the truth.

She just nodded firmly in understanding. "That dickhead," she whispered. "You tell me if he does anything else, okay, Mike?" The girl pointed at him as she began to back away, almost turning. "Come to me!"

The cafeteria doors slammed open with a loud bang that startled everyone inside. There was pointed anger on Sar's face as she stood there between the doors menacingly. "Billy!" she exclaimed. The boy stood at her furious yell and she stormed towards him. All eyes were turned towards her as she got up in the new King of Hawkins' High's face. She was nowhere near as tall as him but her fists were clenched as she looked up, standing on her toes.

"Hey, princess," he said.

She just growled out with a furious expression. "You tried to run over the kids?" she yelled. "Are you fucking kidding me?"

He just chuckled at her nonchalantly. "Got a rise out of 'em, didn't it?" His hands were pressed into his pockets as he smirked.

She shook her head angrily. "Are you joking? You were going to run over them!" she yelled. "They're kids! You tried to run them down with your car!" People were talking nervously. She scoffed. "Jesus! Is that what you want to do as King, huh? You want to take it out from under Steve's feet just so you can run middle schoolers over?" she sneered. "You stay the fuck away from them. I swear to God, Billy, if I see you hurt them again I will end you." The blonde just rolled up on her toes, right in his face. "Stay the fuck away."

Billy huffed out a smirk, tongue running irritatingly over his lip. "Oh, yeah, princess?" he challenged. "What're you gonna do?"

Her lip curled in anger. "I'm sure you're fond of that nose," Sar sneered, "wouldn't want to see it broken." Might haunt your dreams too—dickhead. His eyes hardened as they stood off in the middle of their school cafeteria. Her nails were digging furiously in her palms as Steve tightened his hand around her upper arm, coaxing something in her ear.

"Come on, Sar, you don't want to do this. Not in front of the whole school." His voice was soft and beckoning as he held her. After a second stand-off, she let Steve pull her away from the blond, despite Steve being taller and probably able to take Billy on.

"King Steve, everyone!" Billy jeered as Steve led her gently away. Sar turned momentarily on her heel to declare the finger to him in front of the whole school.

"I think there's something wrong with me," she said after a moment as they sat outside on the bleachers. The wind was cold around her bare knees as she perched there absent-mindedly. Her hair was loose over her shoulders.

"There's nothing wrong with you," Steve told her. She slowly turned to meet his eyes, gaze sad. Her chin rested on her knuckles.

She wasn't sure if being this protective ruined things. Maybe it did. But she'd never gotten any real love in that lab, and she needed someone to give her's to. She turned her gaze away. "I feel like I'm fucked up." Her voice was quiet and distanced.

Her fingers still ached as she covered her face with them—those growing pains that wouldn't go away. Perhaps it was cancer. She kind of hoped it was cancer.

Steve shook his head adamantly at her. "You're not." His hand was clasped over her shoulder. What a shit friend she was that Steve was having to comfort her after his girlfriend had basically just dumped him.

She nodded and then shrugged, slumping into herself and feeling more down than usual. "I've just had a bad day," she told herself.

REALLY SHORT CHAPTER SORRY BUT I FREAKING LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH! ALSO EMMA/TWO IS AMAZING I LOVE HER. AND YES IN THIS PART WE'LL LEARN MUCH MORE ABOUT THE KIDS OF THE LAB WHO I ADORE & LOVED CREATING!! It's so interesting seeing how each of them have made Sar who she is today. Like Lune, Seven, Two and all the rest have just shaped her personality so much. The sweetness (Two), the protectiveness (Lune), the rebelliousness (Seven) and the fright are all evolved from all of them, and I love writing how those dynamics played throughout her childhood. Honestly I'm really proud of this story and I hope everyone reading it is thoroughly enjoying it.

I don't know what I'm going to do if in season 3 they expand on the kids of Hawkins lab or Sara Hopper is really alive (doubt it) and it clashes with my story. I'll just have to roll with it if it happens, which it probably will.
