THERE WAS THE SOUND OF A BASKETBALL HITTING THE GROUND, EXCEPT THIS TIME IT ECHOED AROUND THE GYM. The basketball team was running back and forth across the court, jostling with each other. It wasn't Sar's ideal afternoon, but it was better than being stuck alone in the library. She had to admit, though, she did begin to enjoy the games.

She watched as Billy threw Steve to the ground, snatching the ball from him. Sar made a noise in the back of her throat. "Not fucking fair," she murmured. She was glaring at Billy intensely, lips pulled together. She'd never really been into sport, but she enjoyed watching Steve play during her free lessons. She found she really did get quite competitive.

"Your boyfriend sucks, firecracker," Carol said to her. Sara flipped her the middle finger, pulling a face. Carol raised an eyebrow and turned back to popping her gum, muttering something nasty to Nicole. Sara turned back at the game with an angry frown. Fuck Billy Hargrove and fuck his mullet. Fuck Carol too.

The face studies on her pages were looking much less appealing the more she glared down at them and so she focused on the game, slotting the pencil between the page. The soft faces of Seven, Ten and One disappeared behind the sketchbook cover.

The game finished with Billy Hargrove's team absolutely smashing Steve's into the ground. Sara stood waiting at the side of the bleachers as Steve jogged off the court, huffing heavily. Billy gave Steve an amused laugh as he passed towards the showers, Tommy beside him doing the same. Sara glared at the boy as he walked past. "Oh, Jesus, he is an asshole isn't he?" she snarked, clutching her art book tighter. Steve was just shaking his head, arms crossed. "But hey, you almost won, you know that?" He just gave her a look. "It was close!" she argued, glancing towards the now-blank scoreboard. She put out a leg to tap against his own, not wanting to touch his sweaty shirt.

He threw his towel over his shoulder. "I gotta go shower. You, uh... you don't have to wait up."

She picked up her pencil from where it was resting on her things. "Oh, no, that's okay. I'll wait out here. I have to finish my art assignment anyway so I may as well." She was tapping the pencil against her books. Before he left, Sar spoke up. "Hey, tell me if Billy gives you any trouble, yeah? I'll take him on." She had a smirk on her face as she spoke, but Steve knew she was being sincere.

He just chuckled at her, head casting down for a moment. "You're going to take on Billy Hargrove?"

She just shrugged with a quick grin. "I'll scare him for you." Steve snickered again as he walked into the boys' locker room. Sara gave him one last laugh before she went to sit down on the bleachers. She painted Two quietly until Steve came out and asked her who the artwork was of. She told him it was just someone from a dream, and the two had walked to the lockers together.
