" it..it was you?! " sadie shouts in disbelief, she was clearly as bewildered as i was.
" it was, now i'm going to have to call off our little friendship or whatever we had going on, because i for one am not going to be seen hanging around with homeless girl like you " i spit, looking her up and down in disgust before beginning to walk away.
" take it back " i hear her say, causing me to stop and turn around to face her.
she was looking at the ground, covered in multiple emotions, sadness and anger being most noticeable.
" what? "
" i said take it back! " she yells, shoving me backwards by my shoulders, " you have no right to call me homeless when you have no idea what shit i'm going through. try living a day in my shoes max mills. try having a fucking abu- "
she cuts her sentence short and freezes for a second, i was so close to hitting her back but for some reason i couldn't move. it was as if a part of me felt sorry for her, even though i knew deep down i had to hate her.
she looks up at me one last time before taking off running back down the hall.
i don't run after her, no, instead i stand their confused, watching the brunette run off into the distance.

☾

i storm into the school lunch hall and walk over to the one person i knew would listen to my rant.
"talia i need your help" i breathe out as i slide into the seat opposite her.
she looks up at me confused as i never normally sit with her, " with? "
"sadie was my anonymous match "
talia's eyes widen, and then mold into a stare of disbelief, "well, i have to say, i didn't see that one coming"
"you and me both" i sigh, placing my head in my hands, " talia, what do i do? "
" why are you asking me?! i wasn't even here when the pairings happened "
i look back up at her, placing my chin in my hands this time, " but you've always been good at advice and you cannot let me down this time"
" okay well, did you have fun talking to sadie whilst you didn't know it was her? "
i did, didn't i?
just talking to sadie made me forget about losing harvey and all of the troubles that followed.
she made me feel happier and i felt like i could be myself around her.
as much as i hate to admit it,
she was good to talk to.
"mhm" i admit, once again placing my head in my hands.
"then finding out who she really is shouldn't affect the way you see her" talia says, taking a bite out of her apple.
and that's when i remembered...
my promise.
shit.
"thanks talia" i exclaim as i speed walk out of the hall.

it was now about 5pm at night and i was going to set things right.
i walk out of my house and inhale intensely, exhaling before jogging away in the direction of sadies house.

as i reach her street i notice a girl similar to sadies height walking down the road with her head down.
the girl lifts her head and looks up to the sky, obviously taking a deep breath.
and that's when i realised,
it was her.

i took off running towards her as fast as my feet could carry me.
she obviously saw me coming because she froze in her tracks as i approached.
and then,
without hesitation,
i place my lips onto hers.
