Now that Sam has joined me on my journey, life has become easier. I think her last owner trained her or something because Sam is smart. She nips my leg if there's a group of walkers ahead, she listens to my commands, and she can even smell out food in abandoned cars. I was just fine traveling alone and could hold my own but, I'm not fucking Matt Murdock. I can't see figures in the rain or hear shit miles away, Matt set the bar for blind peoples abilities way too fucking high. I know he was blinded by radioactive substances and gained powers but, come on.

That's why Sam is a gift from up above.

"Woof."

I turn my head towards Sam, who is tugging my pant leg towards the woods.

There must be something up ahead.

I click my tongue at Sam and we head for the wood line. We both hunker down and wait for whatever it is to pass. I expect to hear moans from walkers but, what I hear something that I haven't heard in a very long time. A vehicle. I can also smell that strong scent of diesel fuel and I push Sam closer to the ground as it gets closer. The truck shuts off a couple clicks ahead of us and I listen for the people.

"Alright gang, let's split up and look for clues."

"Fuck off, García. It got old the first dozen times you said it. Why did they make you leader again?"

"Because I'm taller than the rest of you seven dwarves. And better looking."

Hearing my last name come from one of the guys had gotten my attention and I was straining to hear more but, they walked away.

Anyone could have that last name. Anyone.

I heard more footsteps and tugged on Sam's collar that we needed to leave before we were caught. I crouched down and turned to sneak away with Sam but, something stopped me. That something being a gun held against the back of my head.

Shit.

"Don't do anything stupid, boy. I would hate to cover your dog with your brains. Stand up slowly and walk towards the road."

I didn't bother telling the guy my lack of vision and just let Sam guide me. Grass turned into pavement and the guy jerked my shoulder back, wanting me to stop.

"Hey, García! We gotta live one!"

"Jesus Christ do you think you could shout a little louder, Luke? I don't think they heard you in Minnesota."

"Shut the fuck up."

Their bickering quietened down and I'm assuming they turned their attention to me.

"So, kid, what's your name? Mine is Javier García and this is Luke. Don't know his last name because I don't like him."

Why does that name sound so familiar?

"Sorry, random question but, do you know David García? He used to live in Georgia."

I hear the man let out a small laugh.

"Well, I would hope I know my own brother. I haven't seen him since this whole fiasco. Why do you ask?"

"I'm his son, Gabriel."

Silence

"Gabe? Is that really you?"

"Um yes. Who are you exactly?"

"I'm your uncle Javi. You never met me because I was always on the road playing ball. Your dad sent me pictures of you and your sister. Where is your dad?"

"Oh him and Kate ditched me when shit hit the fan. Haven't seen either one since and prefer to keep it that way."

"Oh my god, Gabe. I'm so sorry. I always knew David was a prick but, never expected him to do this. Come on. You're going with us."

"Wait, Javier, have you seen my sister? She went to college in Tennessee and I came here to find her."

"Gabe, your sister went with me and I took her in because one of my friends told me something bad was going to happen. Mariana died from a bullet that was meant for me. I'm sorry, Gabe."

The breath was sucked from my chest and I could feel the ground get yanked out from under me. I could faintly hear Javi speaking to me but, it fell on deaf ears as I stumbled around for my footing. Sam whimpered beside me and nudged her nose into my leg but, I became nauseous. Bile rushed to my mouth and I emptied my stomach of its contents onto the ground behind me.

"Aw sick! He got puke on my shoes!"

"Shut the fuck up, Luke. Help me get him in the truck."

I pushed away their hands and stepped towards where I thought the vehicle was. However, I didn't get two steps forward when I became light headed and fell to the ground.

"Shit. Luke, grab his legs and I'll get his arms. Put him in the back so he can get some air."

I felt my body get lifted and dumped in the bed of the truck. I faintly called out for Sam and she jumped in the back with me. The truck started up and took off down the road. My body was still frozen from the news of my sisters death. A tear rolled down my face and I started singing slightly under my breath.

"We'll meet again. Don't know when. Don't know how but, I know we'll meet again some sunny day."
