My Dark World (Gabentine Fic)

Comatose

Voices shouted all around me. Hands grappled with my body and hoisted me upwards. I faintly recall a warm hand touching bloody my face and patting it gently. I wanted to ask what was going on but, found my mouth not cooperating. My body was wanting to shutdown after losing so much blood and it seemed like the strange people weren't letting that happen. I felt the knife get extracted from my chest and cried out in pain before letting myself finally pass out.

"Gabe."

I open my eyes at the sound of Clementine's voice and find her standing beside me. I see tears rolling down her face and reach my hand up to wipe them away. She smiles at me and takes my hand in hers. Warmth flows through me at her touch and I pull her into a hug. Clementine stiffens at the contact but, returns the hug anyways. I smile at her as we pull away and then, I feel a jolt go through my body. I frown and look down while touching my chest.

"You have to wake up now, Gabe. You have to go back."

"But, I want to stay with you and be able to see you."

Clementine runs her hand through my hair and gives me one last smile.

"I need you, Gabe. I need you to wake up."

Then, everything goes black and the pain hits me. I groan at the wound on my chest and the soreness of my body.

Fuck you, David. Wait...where am I?

I try moving but, find my arms and legs restrained once more by straps. Panic shoots through me and I convulse on the bed I'm strapped to.

"Hey! Is anyone there? Let me out if these fucking things!"

Footsteps hurriedly sound as they get closer to my far right. The sound of a door opening and closing does nothing to help my panic, only feeding it. However, as the people get closer to me, I can smell the all to familiar scents.

Mmm Axe body spray and cheap cologne. It's Javi and Luke!

"Javi? Luke?"

"Gabe! You're awake! Thank god!"

"Yeah but, why am I strapped down?"

Javi and Luke start undoing the straps and help me sit up. I feel an IV in my arm and nearly my whole body is covered in bandages.

"Gabe, you were strapped down because we didn't know if you were going to turn or not. Eleanor had to treat your wounds and your stab wound bled so much, you slipped into a coma."

A coma? Eleanor is back?

"Wait, Eleanor is back? Since when? How long have I been out? And where are we?"

I hear Luke laugh at all of my questions and slapped me lightly on my back.

"Yep, still the annoying little shit from before."

I frown at his wording and I hear Javi tell him to shut up. I turn towards Javi's voice and ask him a question.

"Javi, how long was I in a coma?"

I hear a sigh come from Javi and then feel a hand on my back.

"Gabe, you lost a lot of blood. And I mean a fucking lot. You almost died but, Eleanor saved you. Before we could even talk to you, you slipped into a coma. You were in one for three weeks. As for where we are, we're in a place called Alexandria. The leaders knew Rick and they let us stay here. But, they died last week from a raid and know me and Rick are the leaders."

I've been in a coma for three weeks?! We have a new community?

"Wait, what happened to the sick people? And how did we get out of Richmond?"

"They're all fine. They just had some 24 hour flu and after you killed David, Clementine found you barely hanging on and we got the hell out of there. Tripp and the others had been working on an escape plan and had planted bombs all throughout the place. As soon as we were out of the gates, we blew Richmond up. After that we traveled for 30 miles before finding Alexandria."

My head was spinning from all of the information Javi had just laid on me and had to lie back down before I got sick. I felt a water bottle get pressed into my hands and took it gratefully before gulping down half of it.

"Javi, I'm going to check up on the others. Gabe, I'm glad you're awake."

I lifted my hand as a goodbye and Javi stood up and stretched. Before he would leave to, I had to know one other thing.

"Javi, where's Clementine?"

"How did I know that question was coming. She's just left on a two day run with Maggie and Glenn. You know, she never left your side when you were asleep. She would be here from dusk til dawn telling you about the day and about what all has happened. I finally convinced her to go on a run and she's going to kick my ass when she finds out you woke up without her here."

I crack a smile as I hear what Clementine has done for me. But, I can't help but to feel sad when I hear she won't be back for another two days. I already start planning what I'm going to say to her when Javi breaks my train of thought.

"Gabe, someone else has been here with you too. She's been here as much as Clem has and been waiting for you to wake up. I'll send her in after I leave. But, there is one more thing I've been dying to tell you."

"Oh god, what is it?"

I hear Javi stifle a laugh but, a giggle slips out anyways.

"You may have noticed how you don't stink like a person who's been asleep for three weeks. Well, you can thank Clementine because she offered to give you a sponge bath."

My faces becomes bright red and try to punch Javi but, he runs out of the room and closes the door. I curse at him before leaning back into my bed and closing my eyes. I begin to drift off when the door opens once more.

"You ever been beat up by a blind person before, Javi? That's about to change."

The person walks closer to me and I smell flowers. I frown when I realize it's not Javi and become defensive.

"Whoa there, buddy. Don't come any closer to me or I'll kick your ass."

"Gabriel. It's me. It's Kate."
