(1 Month Later)
The day came sooner than I thought it would. Everyone was dressed up and looking spiffy. Smiles were seen on every face and even a couple tears were shed. The sun was shining bright in the sky and there wasn't a walker to be seen or heard. It was the perfect day.
The perfect day for a wedding.
I was helping set up tables and chairs for the few people we have in the dining hall before going outside. Javi and Daryl decorated the center of the street where the alter would be held. The women were getting all fancied up with what they had and we weren't allowed to see them. Daryl tried telling Carol that it was ridiculous and only applied to the groom not seeing his bride but, she gave him a look that shut him up. I was really bummed that I couldn't see Clementine for a few hours but, couldn't wait to see what the girls would do to her.
"Hey, Gabe! Go see if Carl is done getting ready!"
I glanced up from the table I set up and seen Rick looking at me with a smile.
"Alright, Rick!"
I made my way to Beth and Carl's house that was a couple houses away from mine. As soon as I walked through the front door, I was greeted with the sounds of glass smashing. I ducked just in time as a vase was thrown near my head.
"What the fuck?! Carl, what are you doing?!"
Carl was standing on wobbly legs at the end of the hallway. He was halfway dressed with his shirt buttoned the wrong way and his suspenders hanging beside his hips. My eyes looked at his unsteady form and seen the half empty bottle of bourbon in his left hand.
"Gabe, why would she want to marry me?"
I walked closer to Carl and could smell the alcohol coming off of him in waves. My nose scrunched up at the smell and frowned at Carl.
"Carl, Beth loves you. Why wouldn't she want to marry you?"
Carl looked skeptical at my words and took a shaky step towards me.
"Because I'm an ass, I have one fucking eye and look like Popeye, and I don't deserve her."
I huffed at his words and stepped closer to him and snagged the bourbon from his hands. I sat the bottle down on the floor before turning back to Carl. He looked like he was about to protest but, was cut off from the back of my hand.
Smack!
I grasped his shoulders and shook them roughly.
"You need to stop acting like a fucking idiot and pull yourself together. You have a wedding today and Beth is going to marry you. She doesn't give a shit about your eye and if she thought you didn't deserve her, she would've left your ass a long time ago."
Carl frowned at me and massaged his cheek from where I slapped him.
"Ow, that fucking hurt."
I rolled my eyes at him and pushed him into the bathroom. I turned on the shower and whipped around to Carl.
"Take a fucking shower and sober up. You're getting married in two hours and I can guarantee that the girls will castrate you if you show up drunk."
With that being said, I slammed the door shut and went back into the hallway. I heard grumbles come from Carl but, then it was silent. I picked up the bourbon and poured it down the kitchen sink. I rummaged around his kitchen for awhile and found some chocolate pudding to chow down on when the bathroom door opened.
