The worst thing ever was waiting hours and hours to find out if they were alive. My stomach was in knots to the point to where I almost made myself sick. Then there's that terrible feeling where you start to imagine your life without the person and how you'll get through it or if you even want to get through it. On the other end of the spectrum I hadn't know the King all that well but I found myself feeling deep regret about how this situation could have turned out. I wanted to get to know him. He was a sweet old man who cared for his family and his people deeply. Now it was all up in the air. I tried calling on every device I had but it was no use.
We found ourselves up in one of the sitting areas until the dead of the night, waiting to hear back from somebody on their status. Romanda tried to drink her cup of tea as she did every night but she couldn't. How could you eat or drink in a situation like this ? It wasn't until there was a ring on her Kimoyo bead that we all came alive and perked up waiting to receive the news that laid ahead.
" Your highness, Princess Shuri, Princess Harper. We regrettably announce that King T'Chaka, ruler of Wakanda has been pronounced dead on the scene. T'Challa is heading back to America as we speak. We offer our deepest condolences but T'Challa could not stomach telling you himself ", one of the Dora's spoke from inside of the ship which I presumed was the one T'Challa was on.
Romanda collapsed onto the floor and Shuri immediately started yelling. I called for help and the nurses immediately assisted her. I even tried to call T'Challa again and still no answer. How did I even begin to process all of this ? To think that T'Challa was coming home with his father in a coffin disturbed me deeply but I could only imagine what Shuri was feeling for her Father. She cried quietly as I sat with her across from her mother's bed. When Romanda gained consciousness early in the morning I could see the sadness rush back into her face as she remembered that the love of her life had perished.
" Their bringing my husband back home to me in a damned body bag and they can't fucking tell me who breached security and put my entire family in danger ?! IN DANGER ", she cursed at her servants, assistance and all the important people in between. A Queen never curses but on this occasion, I felt it was well deserved. They couldn't give us any information on who might have done it or why.
" Your highness we are working around the clock to dig up security footage and see exactly what's going on. We are try- ", her assistant was cut off.
" Well that's not good enough ! ", she screeched pacing back and forth between the room. She'd rotate from anger to sadness. Shuri however, was shaking in my arms while I tried to put on a brave face but my exterior was slowly cracking and peeling
None of us could sleep until T'Challa got home. We spent hours trying to get him to call us but his line was dead. He didn't want to talk at all. Once he touched down in Wakanda, Romanda ran to him breaking down in his arms. Shuri cried as well, trying to comfort her brother. His face was stone, he seemingly didn't want to express his emotions but instead comforted his family. He requests a moment alone and I reach out to grab his hand. He looks at me with a sorry expression and pulls away from me walking up the stairs slowly.
I tried to give him his space while I comforted Romanda and Shuri. I tried to be all ears to their cries but in that moment I knew something was terribly wrong with T'Challa. I sneak away to walk towards our room. The door was opened ever so slightly as if he forgot to close it. Making my way inside, I close and lock it behind me. I approach him slowly while he sat on the edge of the bed looking out of the large window.
