As I walked through the halls of the palace the drums got closer and closer. I passed by servants lined up against the walls with their heads bowed. Entering the ballroom I see the ballroom lit by fire. It wasn't the ballroom I remember. Members of the palace all stood around the room. Entering the ballroom I see him sitting in a large gold throne at the top of the steps. His legs open, hands gripping either side of the chair. My eyes met his and his stare pierced through me like a sword. His eyes rolled down my body slowly for what seemed like forever. I kept my eyes on the floor to keep them from tearing.
" Harper...I'm so glad you decided to join me ", his raspy voice filled the room and sent chills down my spine. I didn't say anything.
" The King complimented your presence ", W'Kabi stood beside him. My eyes shot up to him. He stood beside him proudly. As if he didn't see anything wrong with his new position.
" Thanks...Erik ", I mumbled quietly.
" It's Killmonger. King Killmonger. And that's how you will address me ", he said sternly. His crowning ceremony was tomorrow but technically he was. Still I didn't want to work out the technicalities.
" Yes, King Killmonger ", my voice shook with anger as I continued to look down at the ground.
" Very good ", he chuckled darkly. He could feel my embarrassment from my barely there attire. I kept my hands clasped in front of me. After he feasted his eyes long enough, he abruptly stood from his chair causing me to flinch slightly.
He walked towards me slowly. I desperately wanted to create space between us but he closed in. This wasn't the Erik I knew anymore. All he wore was loose fitting pants with a black men's cardigan, no shirt. I could see all his scars under his shirt. I wasn't sure how long he had them but some of them seemed fairly new. Now I could feel his body heat on me. He slowly started to circle me. He circled me like prey in front of everyone to see.
As he circled around me I caught glimpses of Okoye and Ayo who were plastered along the wall with the other Doras. Okoye looked at me with sadness in her eyes before hers turned to stone, nodding at me as if to say " Stand your ground ". And it was in that moment that I realized that Okoye wasn't just mourning the loss of her King, she was mourning the loss of her marriage or what she thought it was. It was so obvious that W'Kabi was happy with this new change of order. Spitefully Killmonger gave him what T'Challa couldn't- Klaws revenge.
" I chose well with this outfit. No need to be wearing dresses up to your neck around me. It's just too hot for all that ", he spoke condescendingly. He stood in front of me now. He stood so close I could feel his breath at the top of my head.
" There's gonna be some changes around here. Starting with all those damn dresses, it's an eye soar to me. They're being burned as we speak. Besides...that ain't how our ancestors did it so why should we ? ", he taunted. I growed to love those dresses. I clinched my fists at my sides.
" I'm having the royal artist paint some important pictures of me. My photo should be up next to yours within the next day or so. History is so important...I was thinking of hanging up this one in the dining room. Tell me what you think ? ", the male servants carried a huge mural of the warrior falls fight between Him and T'Challa. It was the moment he threw T'Challa over.
