~ Maxine's POV ~
I hiss in pain.
"Maxine calm down. It shouldn't hurt as much by now. It's been four days." Gordon says as he presses a rag filled with alcohol onto my shoulder.
"Well sorry that not everyone can handle the pain of being shot in the f*cking shoulder like you can!" I yell at him.
I didn't mean to yell, but I'm in f*cking pain! I mean I'm a 17 year old girl who just got shot in the shoulder and still has bruises and broken ribs from the motorcycle accident! Although I got lucky I only got hit in the shoulder. I was supposed to die.
"Very well." He says.
Then he pulls out a Taurus 1911 stainless pistol. He takes the safety off causing a clicking sound and points it directly at me... my heart to be exact. I just close my eyes and wait to hear the shot...
Before the shot came a loud bang rang through the empty warehouse.
"Who the hell is in here?! Idiots go search the place!" The man yelled at the buffoons and the scampered away.
"Now were was I? Oh, that's right! I was about to kill you." He grinned evilly and pointed his gun back to my heart.
Again I closed my eyes waiting for the shot. When I heard pounding footsteps. I looked up and saw Gordon running straight to the man pointing a gun to me. The man laughed at Gordon's attempt to save me and placed his finger on the trigger he shot the gun right as Gordon tackled him to the ground.
He missed his shot to my heart, but the bullet still caught my shoulder.
"Mother f*cking b*tch! That f*cking hurts!" I yelled through gritted teeth as I held my left shoulder with my right hand. The bullet had gone right through my shoulder so we don't have to worry about taking it out later.
Gordon got a hold of the man's gun and hit him upside the head with it. He scurried up and ran to me and fell to his knees.
"I'm so sorry Maxine. I should've helped you out. I'm so sorry." Gordon said over and over again a quiet voice.
"It's ok Gordon just help me!" I said through clench teeth. Who would've thought getting shot would hurt so much? Note the efing sarcasm please...
"Right!" Gordon exclaimed as he put one arm under my back and the other under the back of my knees and lifted me up.
He carried me out of there and into his truck. We drove all night and morning to a secluded safe house.
~ Present ~
"I'm sorry for yelling at you Gordon. I'm just in too much pain still." I apologize to him as he keeps tending my injuries.
"No problem Maxine. I understand. And don't call me Gordon." He said the last part a little roughly.
I chuckled lightly at him for two reasons: 1) You don't want to anger Gordon or as he prefers Bloodcurdling (eye roll) and 2) Because I have a few broken ribs and it hurts like hell if I laugh.
"Gordon I've been meaning to ask you... Why did you come save me?" I ask him hesitantly, not wanting to anger him.
He became tense for a moment before he relaxed and continued tending my bruises and what not.
"I couldn't stand around and let you die. I know that if they went after you, you would die. Either they would just kill you or you would ask them to kill you..." He trails off and didn't even make eye contact with me.
