It happened in three stages.
As my helpless body hit the water the first few seconds all I felt was panic, I was unable to grasp my location.
Then it hit me.
I was going to drown if I didn't do something, even in my panicked state I knew I needed to escape from the restraints to drag my body back to the surface.
I struggled with the rope, thrashing around in attempt to free myself from the one thing holding me back.
But I couldn't do it.
My lungs scream at me to breath but in my semi-conscious state I fight to remain in control of my breath.
Everything around me is black.
I can't die like this...
But I have no choice.
Everything just stops, my lungs just give out on me, the darkness calms me, my panic subsides. An intense urge for oxygen occurs causing pain to ignite from inside.
And I give in to it. The water forces its way into my system and my body comes back to life.
It all just happens.
Adrenaline courses through my body and I fight once again.
I'll fight through my dying breath.
I am thankful for the pain. Without it I wouldn't feel so at peace.
The hope I gathered comes crashing back down on top of me.
Leaving me to slowly disappear into the black waters...
