I looked around my room and my eyes landed on my phone. Connor had never called me... none of that ever happened. I looked at the time; 6:14. I sighed and put a pillow over my head. Why does this happen to me? What did I ever do to the universe?! My phone beeped and I took the pillow off my head and looked over.

6:16 - Jake - Hey. My mom just wanted me to make sure you were coming to dinner.

Even in his text I could tell he was acting coldly to me. Oh, shit. Dinner. This isn't my day! I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. I quickly braided my hair and put a tiny bow at the bottom, to hide the elastic. I walked back into my room and to my closet. Be fast. I quickly chose a subtle baby blue dress to correspond with my baby pink bow. It was tight at the waist and flowed at the bottom. I grabbed a pair of baby pink flats and walked downstairs.

"Got a date?" My mum asked me as I walked downstairs.

"Yeah, we both do... at the Danby's." I said and her eyes widened.

"Oh my goodness! I forgot all about that! I can't go." she said and I breathed in deeply.

"And why not?" I asked coldly, not much in love with the idea of going alone.

"I have a date!" she said and I just stared at her. "Not a date, date... I have a work date." she said and I shook my head.

"Oh."

"Would you stop worrying about things?" she asked me and I looked down.

"Sorry." I said and she kissed my cheek. "I'm not going alone." I said and she looked at me.

"Fine, I'll cancel my plans." she said and I shook my head.

"No! Don't do that." I said and she looked at me.

"Margaret Danby made us dinner, and I need to go." she said and I sighed. She pulled out her phone and dialed a number. She pressed the phone to her ear and smiled.

"Yes, hello! I'm so sorry, but Lanie and I might just be a little late..." she said and I rubbed my face. "Yes, a misunderstanding about time... You better! That's how you raise them... alright. Oh, hello Jake." My mum said and looked at me. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "Okay, yes I can do that. Okay. Alright. Yes. Alright. No problem! Bye Jake!" she said and smiled.

"What did he have to say?" I said.

"Nothing." she said and went to her room. I got a little suspicious, but let it slide. I walked to the living room. I heard a whistle and looked at Nathan and Liam sitting on the couch.

"You two are still here?" I asked.

"Well, yeah." Liam said and Nathan was still looking at me.

"Would you stop?" I said and he laughed, knowing I would get annoyed. "Liam, do you feel any better?"

"Eh, kind of." he said and then coughed.

"Yeah, okay." I said and kissed his head. I walked out of the living room and back upstairs. I walked into my bedroom, and continued to my bathroom. I washed my face and reapplied my make up. I heard my phone beep and walked to my bed.

6:32 - Jake - You could've texted me back that you'd be late.

I rolled my eyes and sat my phone back down.

"Lanie! Are you ready, dear!"

"Yeah!" As ready as I'll ever be... "Just one sec, mum!" I turned the bathroom light off, grabbed my purse, grabbed my phone, turned my bedroom light off, and closed my bedroom door. I walked down the stairs. My mum was dressed in a simple dress. For her age, my mom had a great figure, she was very elegant. "You're looking good." I said and she rolled her eyes. I took the car keys out of her hand. "I'm driving."
