Lanie's POV

I walked into the coffee shop at about 8. The doors were unlocked so I went inside, inferring someone was there.

"Again, I'm really sorry about skipping work yesterday. I shoul- AH!" Someone put there hand over my mouth and pulled me into a corner. I made sure to stay calm, just incase it was a murderer.

"It's fine you skipped work... just, right now, shut up." Jake whispered and I relaxed a little, knowing he wasn't a murderer. "Sorry, you breathe really loudly, so I'm going to keep my hand over your mouth..." I sighed a little. "Oh, and there is a break-in happening as we speak." I started to get a little panicked. "But don't wo-"

"Would you shut up!" I whispered and he sighed.

"Sorry.." he said and I heard someone move around in the backroom.

"Did they see you?" I asked and he nodded. "Are you idiotic?" I asked and he put his hand back over my mouth and got down lower. I looked around to see if I could see who the guy was.

This is ridiculous, I thought to myself. Everyone in this city knows that out of all the different shops and cafes this one has no money.

"Jake? Is Lanie coming to work today?" I heard Jake's dad and saw whoever the guy was run out from the back and out from behind the counter. I heard a scream and then the front door close. Jake stood up, picked me up, put me down and ran to the front of the cafe. I followed him. "Who the hell was that?! Oh, hi Lanie." he said and looked at me with a smile. I waved a little at him and looked down.

"I don't know who that was.." Jake said and I could feel him look at me.

"Well, uh.." I looked at him. "Thanks for the little rescue, but I owe the shop's sign a little fixer upper!" I said and started walking toward the entrance.

"Actually, Cassidy is getting stuff for that right now.. can you help me clean up the back room?" I heard Jake and looked back at him.

"Sure." I said and he smiled. I walked to the back room and he followed me. When he got in, he shut the door behind him. "What are you-?" he put his hand on my cheek and kissed me. I kissed back, obviously not thinking. I pulled away from him. "Why did you do that?"

"Because I'm an awful person for breaking up with you, especially a day before your birthday, when I really care for you." he said and I looked down.

"Can we just focus on if he took anything?" I looked around and heard him sigh. "Like... where is my favorite mug?" I said trying to change the subject.

"On one of the tables. Late customer, last night." he said and I said a short "oh" back. He looked at me and started to stare.

"Uh, Jake that is kinda creepy." I said and he started walking toward me and scooted me over a little bit. I noticed he wasn't staring at me, but at what was behind me, well what wasn't behind me.

"What was here?" he asked me. I shrugged.

"I know something was there though." I stated and he nodded and thought about it for a second.

"The box of to-go cups?" he said and looked at me. "Why would they take that?"

"I don't know... Maybe walmart stopped selling them." I laughed a little and he laughed.

"This isn't funny. We were robbed!" he said, still laughing a little.

"We were?!" his dad came in the room.

"They stole our to-go cups." Jake said and his dad raised an eyebrow.

"Why'd they do that?" he asked and we both shrugged.
